are you sure tha audio layer is turned on?
- JoshClancy0
IM POSITIVE!!
This is really pissing me off... I can't synch anything up unless I can hear the music.

hit the . key on the number pad, not on the main keyboard...
- j_red0
and the * key on the number pad will mark visual cues so you can synch up to those..

. on the number pad will play audio only. 0 on the number pad will play audio and video, you can skip frames if you want by changing the settings in the RAM Preview pallette.
j_red, are you still at CCA in Jersey?

AE and sound? Have fun with that. I don't know how everyone else does it, but I usually open up the sounds I want to synch up in Audition, then take note of the time codes, and try to synch them up in AE according to that. I'm not aware of any way to actually hear the sound as you work/press space bar. You can always try to look at the waveform as suggested.
Another thing I do is just export without sound and add the sound in Audition/Cubase/whatever sound program you like to use later.
It's just one of those stupid things that they forgot or something apparently. Like being able to add video and sound to a layered menu in DVD Studio Pro. But that's another story... ok, end of rant.

CyBrainX, where were you last month when I needed it? Guess I've been doing it the hard way...

I don't know if it is still an issue, but I was always told that an mp3 in after effects can get a clicking noise when you render it. People reccommended to me to drop a wav file into it to get better final sound.

Enter response:yep... mp3's are cruddy in AE... convert them to wav files and reimport them... bye bye clicky.
- JazX0
converting from .mp3 to .wav, you're going to lose quality
