Long Storey cut short..
The company I work for has recently been bought out by a huge U.S casino/gambling 'related' company for 28 million. So as you'd guess my orginal boss is packing it all in.
So I get an email this afternoon asking if I would be intrested in deisgning a new logo for his new venture, in my own time. He'll pay me in crates of beer or cash...... He's asking how much it would cost him..
I aint done any freelance before... How much you charge for somthing like this.. ( It's UK based and he's also asking for overall branding, business cards etc...

hahaha seriously... come on.
he's starting this thing from scratch...he obviously wants this cheap.Quote 'let me know how much beer/pennies it will cost me'......
Of course I wont do it cheap, but what a realistic figure?

I guess if he hooks you up with a couple of decent kegs for a wicked party it might be worth it. I wound up paying around US $150 for 1 keg of Spatan Oktoberfest, but it was a special event and we needed that exact beer.

$1500 (US) for the entire package + a keg of good beer and a party for you and your homies...sounds fair to me. Let him know this would cost 5X that in the real world and how much a good deal he is getting.

Dont touch an identity package for less than 4K (US)

yeah sorry. i meant a couple o kegs for just 1 logo. if he want the whole identity package obviously it will be significantly more.

Thanks for the advice guys

One way you could figure is how long it would take you and multiply it by the hourly rate of your choice.
Then add 20-30% on top of that for incidental stuff that may come up.
But if its just a logo & stationary system 2,000 (US) is a good starting figure to look at since its a start up.

anyone freelancing in the UK give me an idea on how much they would charge for a company logo design? and how much a firm would charge?
Cheers

how could you possibly know how long it will take?

m8 this is all new to me, I havent got a clue, thats why I'm asking you guys.

there are far too many variables involved to give you a valed answer, you need to put together an estimate/proposal based on time and stages, it sounds like he wants 'just a logo' and not a 'corporate identity' which would comprise much more than simply a mark, we are talking colour palettes, secondary palettes, type styles, additional elements, grid structure - the full guidelines etc etc.
sounds like you should say ok initial development: 3 concepts: 2 days. stage 2: develop chosen concept: 1 day, 1 additional round of ammends, and anything extra on top of that.
This is obviously quite conservative but I would iamgine this guy is not wanting a full strategy, but then I dont know that do I?

Thanks rasko, I can foward you his initial email if you'd check it, see what you make of it?
