I'm a one-man shop but will be adding on soon so I need to get my shit together and get more organized.
What is the process of getting work started to invoicing it.
As a designer does an account rep give you a task order with the creative brief (do you have examples)
I'm not finding anything in google

ask a design firm for one

I'm really more curious about the process a designer has to go through when doing a project. Do they give a task order and you manage your projects. Does the creative director keep all the orders and just check your progress etc...
Also, I am asking a design firm for an example throught the people here on NT
Or if anyone knows any books they would recommend

the project manager will assist the client with the creative brief (depending on type of project). Once the CB is signed off on - the PM will work out a timline for execution. PM will communicate with the client and aquire all assets and relevant information. It is the PM job to make sure everything is on time and have constant communication with the client. You job as a designer is to ignore all input from the PM and make sure they have confidence in selling through your concepts.

Damn I felt like you were accusing me personally with that "AND READ" now I'll go home and feel guilty scanning my bookshelf for book I haven't read

Ha, if the show fits, throw it at someone.
I buy a ton of good shit and read a little of it, all with good intentions, but that book is one that must be read, it's so worth it.
I also just killed Kevin Airgids book, it's a quick read, kill it on the toilet in two sittings, good info there too.

(Feb 15 06, 12:41)this thought crossed my mind as well.
I am eventually going to start up my own studio/agency and I seem to have a TON more biz knowledge than you and I don't yet consider myself ready. I still have a bunch more miles to go before I can do it and do it right.
I'm not trying to knock you.....not at all....just make sure you're ready or you're going to fall on your face....or, at the minimum, go through some really really hard lessons that you could have avoided with knowledge and experience.
Have you ever worked at another agency or design shop?

Whether I am ready or not is besides the point the fact is that I am put in a situation where after a year of steady growth I need to hire on employees to handle the workflow.
I have an understanding of business and its processes as I have been involved in many aspects of developing the company I work for prior to the addition of the design side.
I came to NT to look for past experience and processes that may differ in the creative industry.
For the past year I have handled all the design work so I could tailor the work to my likes. I just want the transition for new employees to be as seamless as possible.
