How can I prevent Flash from applying settings that crap out when publishing for MX? (instead of having to go back and find what I need to fix)
I'm trying to avoid the following kick in the balls:
Symbol=logo_mc, layer=stroke, frame=1:Enhanced stroke is not supported in this player

Uh, you can't? 8 has some awesome filters and what not, but the bottom line is this is the technology of the future, not quite yet the now...

if you set your publish settings to 6 or 7 from the beginning, i believe flash should warn you when utilizing a function / filter / component or whatever that requires a later player version
its only when you have your publish settings set to 8 and then you use a bunch of stuff, then set the publish settings back to 7 that you encounter that error
i think

I set it to Flash 6/AS2 fromthe beginning. I have no idea what's wrong with my fills and strokes and I'm on the verge of trashing this file and staring all over again in MX 2004.
Thanks Macromedia.

Try saving down the file to MX 2004 and then publishing it again.
Alternatively, trying saving down the file to MX 2004, and then resaving as Flash 8. That's what one designer suggested (on a journal).

frame=1:Enhanced stroke is not supported in this player
I get this all the time it doesn't seem to effect anything.
It's from exporting as swf from illustrator.

Thanks dblock, I was starting to suspect the same thing. It was a logo I set up with a gradient in Illustrator, exported as a swf and suffered in Flash 8.
