Wall of Shame

I am currently redesigning my site and have been toying with the idea of including a 'wall of shame' on it for a couple of clients that have commissioned jobs from me, used the artwork, had the events, but have chosen not to pay me. The point of this would be to get the site indexed for search results from Google in relation to these clients in case future designers or their clients do any research on them. Phone calls, resending invoices, email reminders are not working. What y'all think? Crap idea? Good idea?

I would go and get your money if I were you!

if they've point blank refused to pay you, then fuck'em do it man (not sure how successful it will be anyway) but they'd deserve it.
if they're just slow c*nts then give them the benefit of the doubt and keep pestering them.
failing that, sue some ass!

make room on your wall for other ill treated designers as well and i think you're onto something
you could be the BBB of the innerweb

Do it! Let us know how you get on. If designers fuck up a job for a client then our name is mud. So its the same for them. They paid for a service - didnt pay - so they deserve to be bad mouthed.

it will scare potential clients away and it's somewhat unprofessional.

it will scare the type of clients away that should be going in that direction anyhow
it's not unprofessional if the background is thoroughly checked and if unpaid dues are taken care of their name is released.
why be afraid to stand up for yourself?

Yo - I agree with Bluejam if you have it on your own site. However a site especially for it (is that what you were thinking salisae) would be a great idea. A proper moan community.
yay!

I was thinking about incorporating it into a larger spectrum ie a website dedicated to naming and shaming clients and outstanding invoices. There would have to be a strict criteria involved with posting to prevent abuse but it could work. This obviously does happen a lot. As individuals we do not much power and the hassle of small claims can be off putting for small potatoes jobs but as a community perhaps we can bring some light to bear on this matter.

(Feb 8 06, 05:29)v good point.
you want to advertise good relationships with your clients.
although u totally wanna screw the fuckers over for screwing you!best left alone, learn from your mistakes and make some contracts for clients to sign before your proceed with the artwork stage (or even from the outset).
- krust0
i'm well for the separate website tho!
- epill_0
dont do that...dont waste your energy show casing the companies that screwed you, the only thing you are doing is advertising them on your site!?!?!?
did you fall off your bed and hit your head this morning or something???
it suck what happened to you, but learn from this and get everything in writing up front!
or sit back and try this all over again and again...
run lola run comes to mind...

I agree with Bluejam to some extent however it would be done with the greatest degree of professionality possible. No long-winded diatribes of hardship simple facts only. You pay you get removed from the list. It could scare off potential clients. But perhaps it would only scare off those that were of the same mindset.
The potential of bad PR I see as a highly motivating factor for these deadbeat clients. If we have no ability to bring that to bear in getting our invoices paid then we have no power with which to bargain.

it would be a good 'be wary of' resource for other designers

(Feb 8 06, 05:54)or you could just straight up post their names, numbers, addresses here so we can find out in one great swoop!!

calm down epill
i'm only talking about clients that screw a designer over on a large scale.
and the tone that normal is setting this up as .. he's ashamed of himself for being tricked .. not bash the balls of any client that makes a false move
- krust0
it's not your fault.

here used tot be a website called "bitterwaitress.com" started by a disgruntled gormer waiter at babbo in New York that was a repository and a resource for waiters and bartenders to tell their experiences with insane owners, bad tipping celebrities and all other forms of loathesome scumbag who come into restaurants. It was great!

atlanta used to have a couple of guys that would drive around and film asshole drivers and then post them on a site later that day
i enjoy seeing retribution in areas that are usually dismissed
