One of the Art Directors for one of our clients scribbled all sorts of corrections all over a proof...
One of which was and I quote "Soft drop shadows behind type. We don't do hard drops. Please use shadow Xtension" I look at his file and he's using Quark 4!! It's 2006 who the eff uses Quark 4? Not only that all his type reflows when I open it in Quark 6.5! We had to pull a machine out of storage just to edit his file... Don't even get me started on the fact there's no drop shadow XTension(that actually works) for quark 4! I spent the last two hours writing out various eps and bringing them into illustrator and photoshop just to get "soft drop shadows" behind his quark text.
God help me if he wants to kern something ....

i'm glad i haven't had to touch quark in years. that program is the devil.
now bringing in drop shadows/masks/gradients into flash from illustrator...that's my "fuck this" moment

Hopefully he'll be placated... I was just shocked to find the only thing I had to work with was a quark file and some tiffs and this crazy-assed marked up proof with all these snide comments on it... It would be one thing If I had built the file... Feel Free to tear into me but his sorry ass is the one who created the document with his stepped and repeated text boxes.and his sloppy ass quark paths cutting into logos. I would love to live in a world where the quark fairies turn my crappy as quark 4 doc into a beautiful indesign looking document. Isn't there some sort of test you have to take before becoming an Art Director? I guess happiness is knowing he''l never be able to leave his current job cuz life on the streets would be tough. Throw indesign at him! Quark 4 to InDesign CS2? That's not a learning curve that's a learning wall!
