They're posting a position to teach, and you need an MFA? Or is that a new degree path?
I don't have one and don't know anyone who does. Not even the instructors I know that teach at that level.

yea I dont understand, are they posting a position in order to get your mfa?
or a teaching position , which I would say an MFA is a necessary, unless you are god (or a great designer with experience to back it up... even then its questionable)
Search around the PVN's (just search for MFA) cause this topic has been brought up before in different contexts.

wat is an MFA?

Masters of Fine Arts
(graduate degree)For those who have gone down that road: why did you decide to go for it, and has it been worth it?
- joqui0
it was only a couple of months extra than a bachelor's final year and because I was already on that school i didn't have to pay one miliion euros to do it...

i am currently looking into grad programs (for an mfa)...

My school will probably be looking for someone to come and teach design. Someone who has an MFA, or possibly just a Masters, I don't yet know.
Looks like a few guy have one. No need to be ashamed. I have one too. It enables me to have this job so there ya go.
Well, if anyone is interested, I will post it up in the near future... once it has gotten approval and is a go. It would be cool to hear from other NTers on this.

graduated with a masters in design last week. 2 years of hard work out of ours of my day design day job and being a dad of two.
- blastofv0
wow, with a day job and kids?
I've got a young daughter and there's no way I'm dropping the day job for full time MFA work... but you did it in 2 years around a professional schedule?

had to study whilst commuting back and forth to work - then during lunchtimes and any free time i could. dude - it's possible! mine was 2 years part-time btw.

I have a b.f.a., m.a., & i'll be finishing my m.f.a. in may.
- blastofv0
do you want to teach, or was it more for professional development? was it worth it, or is it too soon to judge?
I'd love to spend some more time in school, but I don't want to kill myself for a few years just for a fancier diploma

Grad school experiences vary from school to school. There are a few types of schools; education oriented, professionally oriented, research oriented.
I looove teaching, and in the last 3 years i've taught 10 classes, and am on 11 & 12 right now. I picked a school, University of Iowa, that offered lots of teaching positions for grads. It's what i wanted. If you decide to go, it's important to know what you want out of grad school, they're all very different. I'd be happy to answer more questions, but the thread is getting long.

I have an MFA, not through design, but ya. I enjoyed it.. .the important thing is to do it well... probably last chance you get 2 years alone..
also I knew a lot of designers that freelanced while at school, married and kids. so its totally possible.
