Anyone ever been in a similar situation? Looking for advice.
I've had a good working relationship with the owner of a small media company for over a year. I did a lot of feelance motion graphic stuff. The last thing I did was in November.
I invoiced, and didn't hear anything for a while. I invoiced again. They have slow payment habits, so I didn't think too much. And it was only about 700 bucks, but still...Suddenly I hear the sold the company to someone else. I talked to a new person there was aware of my invoice, now 60 days past due. They don't seem too keen on paying and suggest I go after the former owner. But, my business is still with their company.
So the questions is:
Collection agency? Who do I send them after?
- Carty0
go after both,
colletion agency...
try rcm collects.

You might have to eat it on this one.

if they bought the company, they bought the debts.
- kyl30
well, when you sell/buy a company the debt is usually part of the dealio. so go for both but one of them is liable.

go have a face to face.

a polite, but stern legal-looking letter pointing out that when a company is sold, all debts are transferred to the new owner should get their asses in gear.

Send chuck norris in

jevad-kinda how I'm leaning. Then after 90 days: Chuck Norris Collection Agency.

LOL! Great minds think alike!

kyle makes me proud.

tell them that you might have hidden a virus in those motion graphics and you might be able to release it into their system via cell phone and it might crash their servers as well as cause the toilets to back up.

(Jan 26 06, 10:31)Yeah...but I don't feel like travelling two hours for this, nor do I feel I should. I would lose the same amount in missing a day of work and travel to have a face to face.

almos the same pickle i am in , good thing to look into is someone who is self employed as a collector .. not a big company since its not that much and the collection fee will be a lot less .... I stumbled upon a guy at a bar that does collections as a side business ..so Im sure you can look one up

Not a bad idea cruz. Most agencies seem to take 25% off the top for this amount.

im in jersey. i got a guy...
- robotron3k0
do what i do, send over a profusely sweaty messenger to wait in their lobby... right when he gets there, call up the client and say he's waiting for the check.
that usually gets them moving.

tehgee, you got a guy?
Will he go to Long Island?
- tehgee0
he will work anywhere in the tristate
