I had a similar experience and I just went to the Labor Commision. It's not the way to go if your time is valuable, or if you want the money immediately, but it is, if your only other option is just not getting paid. I'd say they are good as a last resort. They do this kind of stuff for free.
I got about $700 of the $3000 I was owed 3 years after the incident.
