I need to blow off some steam, and the wife, dog and baby don't want to hear it, so you get it...
I've got a new Power Book, 5 or 6 months old. It's been acting funny but I'm pretty good at backing up my working files onto the old G4 server. So tonight I run Disk Utility and it tells me that there's problems and it can't fix it or finish testing it.
SO, I figure I'll make good on my $349 for apple care and I call them, 15 minutes before they're about to close.
Jeff, AKA Asshead, answers the phone and asks what's wrong. I tell him I'm getting a lot of spinning beach balls and it's lagging a lot. He asks if I've got LimeWire on it, I say yea but haven't used it in a while. His first and only response was that I need to reformat the drive, backup and restore.
I'm no MAC geek, and hate messing with it because I know I'll fuck something up. He send s me about a hundred pages on how to do it (back up all my shit on the other machine and reinstall) and sends me on my way.
What the FUCK. So, I'm backing up and then I think I'll go to an apple store tomorrow and skip work.
He was so useless. Asshole. Fucker. Bitch. Faggot, prolly had a black sweater on.Thanks.
And, if you've read this far and have any suggestions about the machine, let me know.

Jeff the Asshead is right

I think that you should back up and reformat it!
hehe!!

15 minutes before they close huh?
well it sounds like the drive has a problem, it could be something from a faulty drive or something you did, who knows. not blaming you just stating it could be. did you run the Disk Utilities First Aid just once or a few times? i'd run it several times if i were you.
if you're not able to run it, look into Disk Warrior or TechTools to see if anything helps the drive that way. they are vital programs everyone should have for occasions like this.
things will go wrong, you just have to be prepred for them, nothing is perfect.
and yes, limewire can fuck your shit, trust me.

Have fun at the "Genuis Bar". I just went in Sunday for my 2nd new hard drive in 5 months. The guy asked what was wrong and then said "Awwww" like I was 5 and had lost a quarter in a video game. He did it to everyone after me too.

it sounds like your HD is dying
it happened to me
like all PB crappy HD
also ask them to check your CD drive, it also tends to die out also
- jevad0
"Faggot"? Grow up fuckball - I hope your computer explodes....
- RoyBoy0
Do you think thats a little harsh jevad?
- Moenen0
I HATE ALL THIS AGRESSION on the PVN.
get laid or something.
- numero10
yeah! why grow up???
poofter is better!?
ppl relax!
- auricom0
i tend to agree with Jevad.
did the apple guy he talked to cause the problem....no.
did he attempt to assist him and point him in the right direction as to what to do next.....yes.
so to go off and call the guy all those names and shit.....bit childish.
now, yes, HD failure blows goat nuts, and steve was frustrated and to him the guy he talked to was Apple so that guy received the brunt of it, but those guys are there to help, don't knock em if they are just doing their job.
plus when you go somewhere or call 15 minutes before the place closes, i don't care what company you're dealing with, or how much you paid for support, those guys just went through a long ass day, it be best to wait till they are rested anyway so they can focus on the problem.

You know, I was listening to your rant, until you decided to use "faggot" as a slander against him.
You may not think so, but using that word is very hateful and abusive.

He shoud have run you through a whole sequence of stuff... including running the Apple Hardware Test CD that comes with your Mac (or is incorporated in the newer install DVD's)... I'd call again and ask for someone who knows the right diagnosis procedure (they really do have one..thats why I get Applecare.. for the diagnosis just as much as for hardware repirs)
- ribit0
and...they should recommend first a 'refresh' install (keeps all your stuff untouched), and if that doesnt work, an 'Archive and Install' (new System folder), and if that doesnt work, then a full restore... gotta go through the steps...
- mogo0
dude - i'm not sure about all your insults and such but be sure to get this hard drive backed up before anything else. I recently had a drive crash on me and it cost me $1250 to get the dam thing recovered. I learned my lesson, expensive as it was.

here is a tip for you..
Back up is always a first, but I have been in a similar situation and lerned than creating a new user, resets your preferences, it is almost like startin over without having to re-install..You can create new user from system preferences, once you know everything works fine, erase your old user and there you go!
Hope that helps!

Wow...
A. All sincerest apologies to anyone that is/was offended by my use of slanderous words... seriously. I didn't and typically don't mean to hurt feelings directly or indirectly and feel sincere sadness if I've done so. So I apologize and am thankful for the bludening.
This is not a justification for it, but I've gotten much better service from them at much worse times fo the day. This guy seriously seemed to not give a crap about my machine.
B. I backed up everything off the drive last night onto the server. Thanks to Synk.
I then ran the disk utility a few more times from within the OS, no luck. SO I ran it from the install CD at about 3:45am and it was able to successfulyl repair the issues. I removed all traces of Limewire, hopefully. I am not going to the "Genius Bar" but will most likely have Apple send me a new HD anyhow. Thanks Again and all apologies again.

Out of curiosity, what error did you get? Something about Disk Utility losing it's connection?
If you have OS 10.3.x and you updated to the latest version of iTunes, you might have the some problem I did. Go look on Apple's discussion board for iTunes (Mac) and you'll see there's some files to delete from library/packages that might've fixed your problem.

Shit. I've been having the same sort of issues/problems and of course, I also have Limewire installed.
Shit. I really don't want to, or have the time to go over all of that.
I'm just going to buy a PC.
