I'd bet the A3 is almost identical to the Jetta GLI. http://www.vw.com/jetta/gli/gli_…

"The new Golf shares platform with the Passat..."
lnu
(Jan 18 06, 08:01)Passat is not built on the safe platform as the A3, Golf, Jetta (chassis code: A5). Passat is built on the sixth generation B platform or B6.
When comparing a base model Audi A3 to a loaded 2.0T model or the base GLi, which are similarly priced, the only differences include the obvious sheet metal, suspension components, interior materials and the DSG transmission. DSG is rare on the Jetta. it is only available with the GLi model. on the A3 however, DSG is easier to find. When maxed out with options, the Jetta can be had for around $29K. With every option, the A3 can cost upwards of $39K.

The A3 and the VW Touran (european only?
) were the first cars with the new platform, which can now be found in the european Golf,
(the US Golf is still one generation behind). That's the same platform that they use in the new passat, although it's obviously longer. I can't imagine that the new Jetta (which is basically a european Golf with a trunk) would use the older platform. Also, I was comparing the european models with has the same, 2 litre 150hp engine; I didn't realise that these are both unavaliable in the US.

the 2.0L engine in the North American A3 is 200hp.
- lnu0
Yeah, that's the turbo.

you can't get it any other way, atleast not in Canada. you can either get it in the 2.0T or the 3.2.

I know, that's what I'm saying. In the US you can only get the the 2.0T and 3.2 engines in your A3, like you said, and the 2.5 and 1,9TDI engine in the Jetta. In Europe you can also get the 2.0 (no turbo) on both models. My bad.

Just got a call from my little brother. Turns out he got a new 06 Jetta today. Runs in the family I guess. I got mine on Sunday, he got his today, and we're 3,000 miles apart. 1 in LA, 1 in Miami. Next time it'll be an Audi.
