Anyone got one? I just traded in my leased 03 Passat this weekend and upgraded? to a 06 Jetta. A lotta fun so far. It's got a sports mode on the shifter. Anyone know what it does? I have an automatic, but it's a new feature, so it's gotta do something. Anyone?

i believe its a sportsshifter, you can shift gears like a manual but without the clutch!

you should have got an audi.

I've been saving for an Audi 06. Not sure if I'll break down and get it

Isn't the tiptronic supposed to be manual without the clutch? I have both tiptronic (which is used while in Drive mode) and then at the very bottom is the new S shifter (sportmode). Can't figure it out yet.
I've only had the car for a few days, so I'm still learning. I kinda had to stick with VW because they were able to get me out of a 15 month 2003 Passat lease and into a 2006 Jetta for almost nothing. Lease when up a little higher but that's about it. So I stuck it out. The Audi's a beautiful, but way out of my budget, so I stuck with VW. My 03 Passat was great...I would've been fine keeping it til the lease was up, but hey, they made the offer and I went for it. Didn't think they'd actually do it, so I lucked out. My brother has a 2001 Jetta and it's got a ton of problems, but the new ones (after 03) are great so I hear.
Any other VW drivers? Any good sites for us?

an audi or an sti would have done well :) especially in the snow .

you can get an A3 for the same range as the Jetta... isn't your dealer a VW/Audi dealer?

If you're going fast and driving through curves, stick on sports, if not, leave it alone

The new Jetta body style reminds me of a mix between a Toyota and Honda. It looks ok, but I think they strayed way to far away from Jetta. Looks as if I could go pick up a Toyota Corrolla and not know the difference.

The new Jetta does look like the cheap Toyota Corolla but it's starting to grow on me.
I was thinking of getting a new WRX but the new nose of the Subs are soooo ugly and I hear used sub's always have problems.

I didn't like the new front end or silhouette at first, but it grows on you. The 06 Jetta looks WAY better than a Corolla. I think VW/AUDI AG have the best interiors too.

I'm not to fond of the new Audi grill either.

(Jan 17 06, 13:54)"the look of the new audi kicks the shit out of the old ones.. the old ones look way out dated now... i always get looks rolling down the street in my 06 model.

My dealer was strictly VW. So no chance of switching over to an Audi. And I live in sunny Cali, so no need for something good in the snow. The Jetta will be just fine.
As for the design, I think the new ones are SO MUCH COOLER than the old ones. Great job. They're really making the Jetta and Passat classier, taking parts from the Phaeton. The back lights on both are real nice, so are the front grills. The interior is great looking too. Really clean, nice touches. Almost looks like the interior of a BMW/Mercedes, with pilot lights and all.

I'd buy the A3 in a heartbeat. Nice fusion of functionality and performance.
We visited the Maserati dealer here last week for doing some potential business with them.
On their models they have the Formula 1 style thumb/paddle shifters at 10 and 2. Don't know how I'd like those. Not that I'd complain while driving a $120,000 auto.

BB... the A3 has the paddle shifters as well... I opted not to get them and went for the open sky system instead.

Sport Mode:
It makes it so the transmission switches gears at a higher RPM, for faster acceleration and more power(optimum for a automatic, that is)I have that on my MINI, as well as triptronic. They're 2 different things.
- CincodeMayo0
Thanks for the explanation.
So if I'm going fast or on curves quickly then I should switch to sports mode for more power...think I got it.
- Soler0
yes.
i also sometimes use it in the city if I want to haul ass.
- CincodeMayo0
Interesting...may have to haul ass home from work...
