What resolution do you guys design for sine the moniotr sizes these day are going crazy??
I am still designing at 760 x 420
Should I be going larger or should I stay safe??
Would you say it depends on the kind of job you are doing ie photographers/arty site - go bigger??
Information based sites stick to the norm??
Your thoughts

depends on your audience.
mixed bag - stick with 760 to be safe.
if its for like designers/gamers/etc, people who are likely to have higher res, you can feel safer about stretching things out a bit

I still go with 760 , given t hat most of the sites I work on have a wide variety of users , but just walking around the offices here a lot ofco-workers still run 800x600 , why the world will never know

fluid layouts?

Read some reports on overall browser statistics and also individual research you audience for each site you do.

I still work for 800x600... but lately my creative director, even clients (without a real sense of who their audience is or how they are looking at sites) are pushing me to go bigger... which I certainly don't mind: but the nervous nelly in me keeps essential pieces of navigation and contact links, etc. "above the fold" and in a place where I am sure all can see it...
Fluid layouts, expandable/adjustable flash, is what I am really interested in working on/figuring next.

I always design for 800x600 (max width 760px).
If you do step it up to 1024 make sure to keep all essential content to the left. Check out sites like espn.com for a perfect example of this.
I personally hate liquid/fluid layouts. They're a bitch to code and I don't think there will be good enough cross-browser support to make me change my mind for at least a few more years. But then again..what do I know...

liquid layouts can really look like ass at higher resolutions.
- jakeyj0
yeah i don't like liquid either
partial liquid layouts can work for somethings, depends on the interface

if i design something to be centered on screen it's at a max width of 760 pix.
if something is anchored on the left i design for 1024x768.
most of my work as of late has been 1024x768 though. the clients think a big site = better. ugh.

760, yes if you are concerned about 800 x 600 people
1024 x 768. Most users are at that resolution.
check the stats.
