Im looking for a mac & pc compatible external hard drive.. Am looking at the Lacie Porche 250gb.. Does anyone know if i can plug it into both my mac & pc..? Cheers

i got lacie triple interface.
if you install MacDrive on your pc, you can read a mac formatted drive. i was gonna set it up but i am lazy. plus i rarely use my pc.

If you are running OSX, or any mac operating system really, your mac will be able to read a PC formatted drive. Macs can read PC and Mac formatted drives, PCs can only read PC formatted drives.
I have the drive that you are referring to, and to be honest it isn't the best.

mine blew up about 4 months ago, 70gb of music and shit loads of porn all gone, they really are crap, just a normal internal HD in a box. its all bollocks!

I had the 160GB firewire version of what your talking about and it was really noisy, made a horrible high pitched whine all the fecking time. SO i sold it on ebay with loads of mp3s and mac software and got more than I paid for it

do you guys keep the drive on all the time?
i only turn it on when i need to back up.

i never leave it on when i'm not using it.

I always leave my drives on, but I set their spin down on the drive to say 3 minutes, so if I'm not using them they just sit idle.

I got mine to store mp3s so I kept it on all the time so I could listen to them. I now have a Western digital USB2 one which seems much nicer

Which external hard drive would you guys recommend if i want to store files from both my mac & Pc...? any links..? Don't really want to spend over £100...

format for pc first, then you will be able to read on both mac and pc... i have the 160 gig and it has been solid.no software needed.

i own the Porsche 250GB Firewire... also works on PC (with FW).
Though, the guy from the store where I bougt it said that the vertical (ugly) LaCie HD is technically a little bit better...

I never hear the drive, I've had it for over a year now and it seems to work just fine.
