a friend of mine played bass in 'morpheus descends', a front-runner in early 90's death metal.
their catalog is being re-released, so that's been my metal fix this week:

So much metal crap seems to have their epistomelogical roots in Germanic linguistic roots...Gorguts, Corpse.... weak, weak, weak...
a lot of gutteral language. this is fine and all, but it really seems that there is a major lack of creativity in the genre of black/death/doom metal.
just blaze on with uber-fast, double-bass drumming, have logo written as bloody, ghastly, and unlegible...
the music would be so much better if the vocalists were understandable....
one can be understandable without sounding like the new sell-outish sound of Disturbed.... they had some potential,,,, which seems to have slipped away a loong time ago...
and those times of crunchy glory are nearly gone from the mainstream....
sorry, a rant.... peace.

Well, I've been listening to NOMETAL this last two days as my pc got owned by random viruses that NOTHING could pick up. Although I've logged what it's been doing and figured it out.
*shrug*

kaiyohteeWhen has the metal genre in general ever been about the mainstream. I don't about what sort of metal you think you are listening to, but if dig slightly underground (i.e. not major label) theres plenty of intersting and groundbreaking, perhaps, stuff happening. And your whole "Germanis linguistic roots" thing is off. It has nothing to do with language , or even the area around Germany and everything to do with the pre-Christian history and way of life of from wherever the group happens to 'make birth', which by the way has nothing whatsoever to do with Cannibal Corpse, or most of the death metal scene in general, because actually the supposed 'germanic' style you are reffering to, which is probably a reference to the 'black' metal scence which developed in Norway/Sweden as a reaction to the death metal scene from which Cannibal Corpse sprung. And of course Gorguts and Corpse are rather weak, theyre really quite commercialized versions of what the real shit is anyways.
