Jaz is right. That era of rebuilding for the Cowboys was fantastic because it was so tactical. And also, look at the fuckin Oline they had: Stepnoski, Cassias, Allen... unbelievable.

That's also part of the romance about watching SC play... The way the O & D coordinators make those 2nd half adjustments to shut down the opposition and win the game is amazing.

Parcells is actually doing some more of that these days too. Very bright manager. However, back to what I said, great org's have great front offices and management. All the way through them. Not just head coaches. Take a look at the fire-ees lately...

The Cowboys rebuilded because they traded Herschel Walker to the Vikings for like 9 picks.

When a special talent like Reggie Bush comes around you draft him. Yes, I agree with everybody who said they need a major upgrade on their O-line, but generally those typses of players can be found later in the draft, or through free agency, especially if your personnel department has scouted wisely.
Last year the Dolphins had the number 2 pick, and decided to hold onto it and take Ronnie Brown. He didn't dominate the league by any means, but he was the right pick, and coupled with Ricky Williams, made for a nice two-headed rushing attack. He also will be a 1,000 yard runner next year if he stays healthy. Nick Saban, the Dolphins coach, then hired an offensive line guru as an assistant, and drafted wisely with the remaining picks, especially in the mid to later rounds. They went from a 2-14 record to 9-7, and won their last 6 games to close the season.
If the Texans have 4 picks in the top 50, they can find lots of line help later on, and still take the most exciting NCAA player I've seen since Barry Sanders.

And don't forget Nate Newton on the Cowboys' offensive line, and the 400 lbs of chronic he was running across state lines a year after he retired.

How could I forget?
At least he waited til he was done playing instead of doing it his 2nd year like Bam Morris... :p

lolAnd it sucks to be Maurice Clarett right about...

The Walker trade did help, but they drafted really well, much like the 49'er, Dallas, Steeler dynasties. The later mini-dynasties like the Patriots were all done mostly through free-agencies and a well-tuned front office.

(Jan 3 06, 19:31)he's too light now and will get drilled and hurt if overused, the NFL is much faster and tougher obviously.
he's just another Peter Warrick waiting to happen. I'm telling you Texans, trade down for him with someone that needs him a lot more.
