Clinton was impeached for lying about a blowjob. I would LOVE to be on the floor of congress and ask everybody there if they still thought that was justified.

i think he would wiretap PETA because it's a pressure group right (summat to do with animals?) and that by spying on them he could pre-empt laws that might make em happy and be aware of upcoming issues and therefore stay one step ahead of the game.
also that maybe i think Richard P Nixon wiretapped the watergate hotel to spy on Democrats electoral campaign and so he used secret covert shiiite to like extend his powers way beyond probity.
c'mon Cocktus, even you must have limits as to how much of the actions of neo-conservatives and or this president you are willing to brook.

Look, the point is that the few in congress who were made aware of the extent and technology used for these "wiretaps" were pretty shocked. I don't think this is necessarily "wiretapping" but some kind of datamining of some incredible degree that includes all communications - email, web traffic, cel phone communications. In other words scary ass shit. And to think that these fuckers think it's totally OK to do this without even a wisp of judicial oversight is insane and anti-american to the nth degree.
Again, as americans we SHOULD be willing to sacrifice some security at the altar of liberty - if you want security go to a totalitarian conuntry. Real secure and trains run on time I hear. The whol epoint about freedom is that their is a price to pay for it..and it's usually in insecurity and blood.

Look, here's the point, either 9/11 justifies an expansion of executive branch powers to a degree not seen in our history or it doesn't. Are we now a dictatorship with the rule of men and not laws, or are we a democracy that basis it's integrity on the rule of law, that found in the constitution? And if so, did Bush break the law by going around Congress implicit and explicit lawmaking powers.
That's the debate. Period. Why can't the mainstream media get this right?
