I wouldn't go for a Imac, but would save up for a g5. The Imac is terrible with motion graphics, and the screen sucks, for the same price you can get a very good pc.

Both.
But if I was held up at gunpoint telling me to pick a side or I'll be shot dead, I'd go mac.

Yeah that happened to a friend of mine the other week. Some punk-ass bitch with a gun in hoxton pointed a glock at him and made him pick. He also made him choose which rare early 80s Nikes were his favourite and which New Order album he thought was the best.
Luckily he chose correctly and lived to tell me of his trauma. What is the world coming to?

the iMac is useless for pretty much anything really. If you web work invloves flash in any way, forget about it.
Save up for a proper G5 or spend half the money a kickass PC and get it buildt and set up properly by a professionional knowledgable in design type workstations.
Then put a skin on it so you're not looking at that ugly xp shit.

(Dec 20 05, 02:07)The new iMac is a G5, so I dont get your point...ignorance maybe :)
I find very hard to belive a Mac being "terrible" with anything. I own myself a iMac G5 2.1Ghz I migrate from a iMac 800Mhz. I also have to use both. I have a client I develop GUI that runs only in IE for pc.
I am really happy with my iMac and I am still working with 512Mb ram, I can't wait until I have it full with 2.5Gb. Its like having a GREAT 20" Apple display with a G5 on it!! Ofcourse, if u wanna work on video and motion software than you would be better served with a double processor...
Why do I prefer Mac? I cant explain, it is something about the touch, the texture I can't explain...The true is its just a tool, doesn't make you a better designer. You should go for what makes you feel better.
One thig is for sure, I have a G4 400Mhz runing OS X 10.3.9 no problems (except is reaaaalllly slow, but no crash's) and my PC 1 Ghz cant run windows XP smothly....go figer!!

Buy a G5 Quad with 8 GB of RAM and then down four shots of Tomato Juice. This will bring you good luck in the New Year.

I have a HP Xeon workstation for all my web stuff like coding in ASP & flash.
And I have a G5 2.5DP for all my print, photo color correction and video stuff.

I like both for various reasons, but you should know, that once a Mac goes bad on you there is no going back, that's you, your job, your life and your family totally and irretrievably fucked. They are great till they leave you, then your life means nothing.
what are we talking about again?
