always make extra dinner so that you can take leftovers for lunch.
Eating two different kinds of veggies as your sides cut grocery costs WAY down. So you can kinda take some of the pain out of tightening your money belt. Go ahead and buy the tbone to grill. then eat it with steamed broccoli and part of a "bag" of salad. The cost is very reasonable.
Anybody else got similar/easy saving tips? I'm sure a lot of people here would like to read them.

how is it not debt JazX?... you're lent the money, you're charged interest... how is that not debt?... yes it is an investment, but it is also debt.
awesome sputnik!... we sold ours in the summer, not much good in downtown Vancouver.

everything that mayo said! we are on exactly the same plan, apparently. it works hella good for us.
eating out excessively will sabotage all your efforts, so make (or learn to make) meals at home - pretty satisfying and can be lots of fun.
mayo, we stock up on proteins, veggies and starches and make balanced combinations every night. we actually like stuff like green beans and spinach in a can as a side, but not many people do.
those zatarain's rice mixes (or whatever other brand) is a very quick meal...just throw some sort of meat and it's done. we make those when we both come home late. pretty cheap (bout the price of a pizza) but still a decent meal.

it's not debt at all. it's a mortgage, but you can turn around and sell a house and make a profit off it. Depends on how you see it. I look at it as an investment, you look at it as debt

right on -sputnik-! any other tips?
we're doing well now, considering we just moved into a new-to-us house as well. it's an old home 1940, so there will be a lot of things that may need updating and therefore cost money.Sam's Club is worth the membership for toiletries and such alone.

well for heating/cooling, we are firm believers in caulking. we'll re-caulk our window and door frames, as well as anything that might seep energy, every year. keeping up w/exterior paint is also important.
plus it affords you the opportunity for countless "caulk" jokes. "want more caulk?", "caulk is so smelly!" and such. it really doesn't get old.

wow, a few of us are looking into buying property. that's great! what are you guys looking for? Apartments, apartment buildings or homes?
we're looking into a small apartment building, maybe only like 4 apartments. A friend might go in on it with us. Read in a magazine how a couple bought the run down apartment building they were living in for like 400K. they cleaned it up, made some necessary improvements and then had it reappraised. Not only did it come in at $1 million in value, but they stayed in their apartment and adjusted the rent so that the other tenants covered theirs. Something like that would be cool.

tk, we currently have MrMayo's place before me that we're renting out. In your research, have you heard whether homes or apartments are renting better?

i haven't really looked into buying a house since it's not an option in nyc unless you buy a brownstone which will go for millions of $$$.
ideally, i wanna have an apartment in the city, then a vacation house. it'll take years and years.
i am looking for a rich wife too.
