I ask this out of curiosity , mainly cause this time of year always drains me funds , not to mention I have been known to overconsume, money burns holes in my pocket.. so is your bank account over or under $4000 USD , what are you saving for
me .... way Under !!

over... was way over that a month ago but i just bought a house and had to drop some serious dough on the down payment.

just do it a little bit at a time...every time you get paid you put X away and forget it exists. i can't stress enough how important it is to have something substantial squirreled away.

I live in a cheap town. I have well over $4K. I save for a rainy day, plus I'm in the process of fixing up a building to rent out to people. I'm no business dummy.

same here chz, in july. we've made it back by being really disciplined.
i keep trying to convince my better half that a noguchi coffee table is an emergency, but he's not taking the bait ;)

you can have a certain amount automatically transferred into a savings account on a regular basis. the less you see or interact with it yourself, the less you'll think about using it for non-emergencies. Also, if you get a raise, that amount should go in there as well since you are already live on the amount you make. Before paying off my credit cards, I also would split my christmas bonus. Half went into savings and half went to extra credit card payments. even if it's $25, every little bit helps.

if I start buying high quality furniture (Le Corbusier preferred) it will drop me about that much for just a coach and a love seat after shipping.

what kills my savings is food. I eat out 3 meals a day. my new years resolution is to definetly stop spending so much on food...

you sound like my better half sputnik... i'm the voice of reason in the relationship.

start buying easy to cook meals for home, even if you have to use coupons to buy the food. no worries, who cares.

I have to pay 17k in student debt. Otherwise. I am not doing too bad, since I don't own a house or car.

good luck gruntt!... best debt i ever incurred.

it's not really debt at all chz and gruntt, it's an investment. 99% of all real estate goes up in value. :)

the mortgage and kids keep it well under.. but i'm ok with that.. living a simple life.
