why are you using images for the navigation?
use text so that the user can resize! if you're going to use CSS/xhtml use it to its full advantage.

jakeyj,
It's gonna look like hell if I do that!
- jakeyj0
no way. i don't agree.
go here to pick your fonts:
in the name of all that is good and holy and accessable, use text links for your nav in html. google will love you much, much more.

you can use relative paths for your images, but they must be relative to the css doc, not the html doc that's importing it.
- kelpie0
good point.
---jakey, frequently Google and your client have very different tastes (use image replacement on the buttons and surely Google reads the nav just as well?)

Next step is fitting in that snazzy javascript scroller that version3 has.

mg33, why bother with all this css pish anyway - I'd suggest building the whole damn thing in Flash :)
- mg330
I'm actually not too concerned about google finding my navigation...
I realize it would be a better css practice, but I'll really have to see what font will fit. I think that's Bodini I'm using. Dunno, but it took me a long time to give into using a serif font.

I can't remember the last time I even used Flash! :D
- jakeyj0
yeah you could use an image replacement technique and google will like that.
just use georgia uppercase bold.
come on - do eet!

I will say this though: Using FF to edit the CSS (first time I've done that) is a great way of building a page. I only have Dreamweaver 4 at home, and it's a headache in comparison.
- kelpie0
yeah, I've had hours of fun just changing the fonts on Google ;P

if you like that, look at the forms extensions and the 'Make Form Fields Writeable' option.
you can have looooots of fun with that
:)

You may not be concerned with Google, but Google has set up their search engines to reward those sites that use proper web practices.
As some putting content online and who knows better, you are responsible for using proper web techniques.

ooo weeeeeee.
this is the geekiest thread I've ever posted in, thanks guyz ;P

not much wrong with using images for your nav.. just make sure u provide a text menu as well... you can hide it i.e. display:none; so the user can disable style sheets to just read teh doc

(Dec 12 05, 08:21)yeah you could do that but why not just use text?
mg - geogia uppercase bold for your links.
you're making this way too hard on yourself.
- kelpie0
but by using Georgia all caps bold you will be making it way too hard on the eyes/tastes of your user...
- kelpie0
ie. it will look gash at various point sizes unless you are running cleartype or browsing on safari. compromise surely allowed for SOME sites SOME of the time, no?
- kelpie0
sorry, I crossed a line. the shame *hangs head
;)
