I'm looking to move to NY to possibly start a new job, I know you guys can help me out, where is the best (and cheapest place) to find a pad if I would be working in Manhattan.
That, and for three and a half years job experience, what's a good asking price?
It's time to join civilization........
as it is.

where are you moving from?
do you have a job lined up in nyc? are you planning on living alone or with rooomates? what kind of work are you looking to do?

moving from Mississippi (dont laugh.....too hard), looking at two different places of employment, not to say it will pan out, but I'm one to be ready for it if it does, hence, this thread.
Would want to live alone, but if I had to pick up a roomie, so be it.
Straight up design work, preferably for the two comic book companies I'm hittin gup.....

well everywhere in NYC is expensive but Manhattan is outrageous.
minimum for a studio in Manhattan is about 1500.
Brooklyn is cheaper- Bushwick, Williamsburg, Prospect Heights, Red Hook-- more expensive areas in Brooklyn are Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope- but studios in these areas still start at $900-1100
and there's also Queens- I don't really know Queens , you can ask e-pill for thatyou can also try upper Manhattan above 100th st
Harlem, Spanish Harlem, Washington Heights-Inwood is nice and cheap - that's up at 200th st
Inwood you can get a 2bdr for $1500

really depends how much you want to pay. typical requirement is that your annual income is 40-45 times the monthly rent.

since you are applying to, i assume marvel and dc comics, why not take a chance with wizard magazine, which is located just out of the city to the north.
i know for a fact that both marvel and dc give very low salaries, so make sure you get the most you can get and ask for a ton more than you even think you deserve.
a roomate is more cost affodable than on your own especially in nyc.
apartments in queens: i live in astoria, and i have a rent stablized apt large 2bedroom $1200. in queens the apts are larger and more spacious and for the same prices as manhattan just larger.
good luck!

you might want to get a roommate at first- or a sublet so you can get to know the neighborhoods before you commit to anything

very good info, guys. I had completely forgotten about Wizard.
Yeah, part of the reason I was asking about average income based on my experience was so that I could gouge it when it came time to make a deal, then begin the haggling process.
So, anyone needing a roommate, I know of a dashing young southern man who is responsible, yet carries a penchant for craziness....
its a bargain..........

since wizard is located out of the city it may pay more than the best gig at marvel or dc.
it is something to consider.
i have a friend in wizard, ill ask him for a contact name for you.
