since you are applying to, i assume marvel and dc comics, why not take a chance with wizard magazine, which is located just out of the city to the north.
i know for a fact that both marvel and dc give very low salaries, so make sure you get the most you can get and ask for a ton more than you even think you deserve.
a roomate is more cost affodable than on your own especially in nyc.
apartments in queens: i live in astoria, and i have a rent stablized apt large 2bedroom $1200. in queens the apts are larger and more spacious and for the same prices as manhattan just larger.
