it was so terrifying when i first started working in a british office and had to make tea for everyone all the time and i don't know nuttin' 'bout makin' no tea and when i got it wrong they would beat me. but now i make a damn good cup of tea and if you took my existence on the basis of my tea-making skills alone, you might think that i was actually briterish (perhaps rather remedial briterish, but briterish nonetheless).

In film/tv they are given the special title 'runner' - the job is the same, but they get the additional responsibility of displaying undeserved arrogance and boring people to death about the screenplay they are working on.
