all computers run into problems every now and then. i've been about 98% problem free on my powerbook this yr, so I'd highly recommend it. the new 15" and 17" models have WUXGA screens now, thats the same amount of real estate you'd have on a 20+" wide screen LCD.

I had a used Toshiba Satellite for a while. That thing was so old, but it took such an ass kicking. Performed way beyond the spec. Also I would trust in companies that push gaming. Alienware probably offers you a good video card and processor. AMD 32 bit owns.

isnt the 17 a lil too big?
like a cellphone the size of a giant banana?

Hey Gabe,
I had my powerbook for pver a year and a half now, its never failed me.
The battery is on its last legs since a few weeks.
I also heard good things about the Sony Vaio line. My account has it and the screen is crisp and clean, a bit jealous of that screen ;)Greets,

Vaio's are a mistake.
Dells are if you're on a budget.

I used to work in a computer repair shop and full on hardware failures were pretty rare on a PBook's. I'd definitely add in the applecare. But other than that, you should be just fine with the old 17". Or go 15" if you aren't prepped to drop that kind of dough.
Judging from the wording of your post though, I'm guessing you are prepared... luckyyyy!!!

i've had the 12 inch powerbook for about 3 years now and never gone wrong on me. I found maxing out the ram helped the speed, but the new ones should be more than fast enough. The screen size is good enough to work on, although I would not recomend it for working on all the time. The 15 and 17inch screens now are higher res, and should be more suitable.

sweet, thanks for the advice guys. guess i'll go with the 17" powerbook...
is there any way i can get more RAM installed while i'm at the store?

i've got the original 17". it rocks. rock solid. it's been to and from work everyday for 3 years. beat to hell , but runs like the day i bought it.

don't get apple ram, they charge a stupid price for it, buy kingston or crucial, just as good, and so much cheaper.

cool thx for the heads up deadpixels. never added RAM to a laptop before, only desktop... is it pretty easy?

powerbook... best machine for the working kind ever.
jack the ram to 2gigs.
enjoy the rest of your life spent infront of it while your marvel at the design and the work you create on it.
laugh at the fact that you've never ran a virus check or spyware eliminator, forget what a blue screen of death even is.
always work with great industrial design and you'll always produce your best.

On the the apple website, under the support tab, type in the search installing memory. It will probably say in the manual that will come with your computer any way. It's pretty easy though
