Digital SLR under $700

I'm planning to get a new camera, I don't need anything fancy, becuase I'm amateur, but I would like to start exploring with an economic SLR.
What would you guys recommend?
I'm looking at the EOS 350D but it's a bit too much on the price for me, I might buy it used if I find it in good condition.

theres a canon rebate going on, spend a little more and just get it .
check slickdeals.net and techbargains.com for DELL deals, ive seen the 350D body go for 600 recently

I think the nikon d70 kit lens has gotten decent reviews but youre really looking at around $1000 for a kit, canon or nikon. then d200 does look good as rand said but more like $1600.

the lens the canons come with are a complete piece of shit. it's honestly not even worth the $100. the nikon on the other hand comes with a pretty decent lens.
i got the canon 20D and it is really solid. its not $700 though so may be irrelevant
