Wow! I guess I'll have to flip a coin :)
I think I'll wait about a month and then see if I really need one. I work as a web designer as well, and Macs just seem essential since a lot of clients seem to use it and also the computers at school are macs.

PC users who have never used a mac always say stay with PC.
I use a Mini at work for Graphic/web design. it gets kinda bogged down when i have 20 apps open at once but runs PS and Ill ok.
and the price is very good
Just make sure to MAX out the RAM

Me either imakedesign... I always defend my favorite, a mac over a PC, but in reality I could give two shits what everyone else uses as long as I am liking what I use and getting my work done.
I'd rather be fishing anyway.

fair enough, i work with applications, not the os... i dont understand what the fuss is about.

mac/pc there is no differnace other than price.. all the software you will be using is the SAME on each platform.. why dont people realize this?

There is a big difference... The DIFFERENCE is the OS. Plan and simple.
I would pay a studio the price of a mac mini to NOT have to use a PC.
I work for myself, before I got busy enough to do so I did IT work for a college. Nothing is more fucking anoying than administrating PC's all day. Nothing is more baffling to me with all the problems that occur on them why anyone would purposely choose to use that shit. But whatever- to each their own.
I mentioned this here before many times... my main machine is a dual450 G4, I run the latest OS, CS2, Flash, and other good stuff just fine.. RAM is key- pays my rent.
A mac mini with maxed RAM will be fine for your needs.

Also it really silent which is a god send compared to most computers.
PS: I would consider 1GB ram, to be on the safe side.

Good computer. I had mine for nearly a year now.
Good value for money too.

I have a mac mini, I also have a huge dong. So I guess it's cool as computers are not vaginal load stones, unlike my doofer.

Just imagine the dick size of Mac Mini users...
...and don't get mad because I mentioned Shuttle twice.

Buy the Mac. Learn to use both. Judge for yourself which one works best.
If you're studying web design it's probably handy that you know both platforms for testing purposes and it makes you a hell of a lot more employable when you finish.

i really dont think thats true, its not like you cant pick up how to use mac os or windows in a manner of seconds.. its meant to be intuitive after all.
- jimeeboy510
true, it maybe the same for the most part (aside from keyboard shortcuts and other minor things), but when you come from a windows bg and go into a mac enviornment, you better know that shit or they're gonna have to school you on it. not all sw is the same either, especially when it comes to video/audio editing.

Mr Dinky is bitter cause his Mac bit the dust!
If your a designer a Mac is standard and in my opinion far nicer to use. If you work in the UK the finding a job and stating "I have never used a Mac" means the possible loss of a job.
my 2 pence

dude i know what shuttles are, i'm just wondering what's Breast's fix that makes him suggest one everytime someone ask for a PC.
is it reflective of his wang size?

(Nov 7 05, 01:47)well, you know what they say about guys with shuttle PCs.
- imakedesign0
as a fellow student i would say stick with a pc, easy to get any software ;-) will not cost you your liver whenever you need to get it fixed and even a £300 pc will laugh at the mac mini for being so slow.

fuckin sucks, I hate McDonalds.

all your existing Mac software will run on the MacIntels (using the 'Rosetta' environment)... its just the Intel-native new versions will run a touch faster. Even if you do buy now, you are only looking at upgrade pricing for software, not all-new.. (thats if you buy software)

shuttle' are tight smallform-factor pc barebone cases. I used to have one a few yrs ago before I started using laptops as my primary computer. its not as tiny as a mac mini and cost about as much to build one, but you have more room to add another disk drive or other PCI cards if you wanted to.
