skelly,
you need a 4 X 4 and a suffolk county beach permit to get there.
Or a strong pair of legs for the hike.
It's called...

gee...the better and bigger swells arrive in the colder days in long island rather than the warm days when the water is generally calm or non-existant.

i used to live in california for about 3 years, i surfed a lot when i was out there. i miss the swells out there the most!!
i remember my first time on a wave and it slipped out from under me and i fell crashing into the water but i was standing so tuff on my board that when i was falling i thought i was going to hit concrete and even though it was water i was prepared to get my face smashed in, and when i realized it was water, the next wave came crashing down on top of me and i smashed into the reef under me!!!
so in the end i did hit rock!!!
i have scars from it!:)

Yep, I'm from NC originally and have spent tons of time exploring the NC coast as well as the Outer Banks throughout the years...def worth a headache!

i'll take the ice cream headache for some of these - http://www.surfline.com/surfnews…

NY – It's only for the ultra hardcore, the temps are retarted. If you can handle the ice cream headaces, you deserve the swells...

i used to surf strong island back in the 80's in the west end.
i had a blue hawaiian 6footer trifin notch back!
the water is too cold!! and the sandy bottom dont allow for good enough rides!
but yes a hidden gem and no one to bother you claiming waves!!
i miss surfing!
:)
