http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2…I'm so happy that Nicole Kidman cover for Vogue got on there. The photos for that were amazing. I'm happy with most of the choices...some...I don't quite understand.
Thanks for the awesome link, meversusthem!

(Oct 29 05, 19:19)that Nicole Kidman issue had some of the best fashion photographs I had ever seen in it, and one of the best photos was on the cover.
The gay one is obviously there for the implications it had on culture soon afterwards. Ellen is still quite important today.

homosexuality is nothing new it is only taboo because of christianity and its incessant need to control the people of this planet regardless if there is a belief in the god, father of jesus christ
fashion photography is useless imo especially in comparison to the other covers that seem to be timeless like the national geographic covers
the black women on the covers were nice to as they allude to a time that blacks were finally starting to be treated as equals in the media
sad we have already begun to back up from the moments pictures
even the black women in playboy now days seem to be a display of the common definition of "white" beauty
what moment or nationwide affect or definition does the NK cover have?
they're just pretty pictures and in the timeline of humanity, worthless

(Oct 29 05, 19:43)Not sure, but that's not really the point. Not all of them have some sort of significance for everyone, but most do. I guess people have to know something about the magazine or the issue to fully understand it. Anyway, I know all about how homosexuality isn't a new thing. The point is that Ellen was one of the first major persons in entertainment to actually influence other people into accepting and maybe even embracing homosexuality, instead of ignoring it. She started a huge trend in many other aspects of entertainment.
I do agree about the political and worldly covers having more value, especially that National Geographic one. But I wouldn't chose it over some of the others.

Jaline its nice having someone take what they say seriously but homosexuality and coming out shouldn't have turned trendy
there isn't a channel on tv that doesn't embrace a homosexual for a good laugh or tear jerk nowdays
but in the end 75% of people in this country (according to polls and votes) wont allow gay marriage
so while it may have helped during sweeps week for the past 3 years running it's still impossible to get the nation to recognize a same sex marriage
her "coming out" has done absolutely nothing for the cause

I think it's definitely more public now though. Whether that's a good thing or not, I can't say. B/c there are definitely lots of humour at the expense of homosexuals. There is also some great stuff about them too, at least from what I've seen.
I don't know, maybe it's different here in Canada, where gay marriage is legal.

anyway, it was nice having this discussion. I'm off to go do some things now :)

in america, where blacks and gays are comic relief or a platform to stand on in protest of to detract from the actual crimes being commited by our politicians we don't have the luxury of knowing what equality actually is
to me gay or straight, you're just a person and your sexuality has no bearing on your abilities to live, learn and adjust to life
being gay is not a superpower, sexuality shouldn't matter, but it does in the entertainment industry, and that matter because thay're rich ://

i dont get the demi moore, national lampoon, Linda Evangelista. the camel humping one and quite a few others, how are they the best?
i prolly dont get them cos: for example demi moore doing a naked preg. cover might have been all the rage and "pushing" the limits of acceptance in 1643 but not to me now i guess if that makes any sense

Haha, the National Lampoon cover is great - If You Don't Buy This Magazine, We'll Kill This Dog!

(Oct 29 05, 22:50)that's exactly it for a lot of those covers. You had to be there to know the impact. I'm sure you could understand those 9/11 ones far more than people could about 20 years from now, because we were there. It doesn't even matter if it was one of the largest terrorist attacks. I mean, it does, but the only way you can begin to comprehend it and actually like it is if you were there to share the experience, as horrible as it was.
I think that's how it was with the Demi Moore picture. Just like you said, it was probably something important in terms of women and pregnancy, and showing skin on covers.
