I think it is quite sick that in the States hanging bodies are only considered a Halloween thing?
Maybe I am a little too liberal-minded, but hanging bodies are offensive. Period. Lynching anyone? Or does this not effect most of the community at-large? (And I am not aiming at anyone here at the community. Just the media world at large...)
Funny that in a time of great racial divide, this wasn't even mentioned in the article....
No wonder I rarely check CNN for news...

jay-
yes its a states thing i guess, no matter how young i can remember being there have always decorations like that, be it during the season in my community or even at school as young as early grade school.
of all the "bodies hung in trees" i've ever heard of, very few have been lynchings, never in my area.
More often than not, it is a suicide, as mentioned in the article.
So instead of bemoaing something racial that does not exist in our society any longer as prevalant as it has been in the past, I think we should address the apparent indescretion and selfishness used on behalf of the deceased to have hung themselves in such a public place where children would be witness to it.

My problem is with the selfishness of the woman who chose to hang herself in open view for all including children to see.

jaylarson, that comment was absurd.
I can't even think of a comeback it's so absurd.

the best hanging body i ever saw?
as a christmas decoration.
in a guys front yard was this fantastic tree filled with lights. below it was a tipped over ladder and a dummy hanging by it's leg underneath by the lights, like the guy was hanging them and fell off the ladder and got strung up. the illusion was completed with a wad of lights on the ground and a set of mittens and a hat below it.
really funny.

I think it was a final, dark display of a deeply sardonic sense of humour.

I'm a US Citizen too. I don't think I was nearly as clear as I wanted to be.
I agree that the woman was disrespectful, selfish, and inconsiderate for the local community. Perhaps she had problems with the locals; perhaps she was a case of undiagnosed depression.
My problem is with how Halloween is celebrated. Bodies hanging by their necks from trees I find to be quite disturbing, even if it is in the "spirit" of Halloween.
Again, I am sorry to have used this story as a chance to open my mouth and question the obvious and daily occurrences in our country. (Sorry that sounded a little spiteful). I just find hanging of bodies from trees, as acceptable social ritual, disturbing.
Sorry I didn't make that clear in my previous post.
And hanging bodies from legs and other things I do find ok. I just find many things offensive these days that I do whatever I can to speak up in my opinion of justice.
Again I am sorry that this may not have been the place to speak up, but I felt I needed to do so.
Peace.

It's all gravy.
But remember it could be how All Hallow's Eve used to be, where the kids dressed up as their favourite saints in preparation for All Saints Day.
Imagine what kind of hell that would be!
/// I'm Irish-Catholic by the way.

i'm partial to the practice of crucifying little stuffed bodies and putting them on display in the front yard.
