So the company I work for is slowly going downhill.
Just curious about unemployment. It's a long way off (lets hope) but ya never know.
How's it work? How much do you get? How often?
Keep your fingers crossed.

I think it varies from state to state. Call them and they will tell you everything you need to know.

Thanks. Can't call them from work, but I'll check it out.
FYI - I'm in Cali.

well that depends on your state , i see ur in califas ... its easy u call say i got laid off or company tanked .. then they set u up .. not very much usally like
480-700 bucks every 2 weeks .. and they usally give you a balance like 7000 in which u will have to spend wisely cus once u recive all your checks that is it ... u must re-apply ..but man oh man is it great to get Uncle Suckers money and kick ur feet up and smoke a bowl

here in texas they require you to keep a mandatory job log of where you are actually looking for work .. I love Monster.com

funny you should ask this. today was my official last day of work. the place I was at paid me very well, but it was a corporate environment and they were shifting gears and cutting entire groups, etc.
I've collected UC benefits in NY and PA. The most I received in the past was $365 this time around I made much more I think I will get $465 a week. Not too shabby for Pburgh. Cost of living is low..

Thanks for the info. So far I'm still here and hopefully will be a little long (well, not hopefully. Hopefully I'll find another better job before this ships sinks...) but you get what I mean.
Just curious, cause the company sucks and is quickly going downhill.
Thanks again.

the most you can receive is $405, also it depends on how much you have made during aa certain time, as each state is different you really need to find out with-in your state. also there is a waiting period of 2 weeks before your claim can go into effect then with-in the 3rd week the first payment is processed.
the crap part is during those first weeks, the govt expects you to go to the fullest measure to find work. they will send you places and what not.
as the job market for each state is different and the amount of population describes each market the pay rate for each state is also different.
there is a third issue, the company you work for pays for a precentage of the check you get from unemployment and its done by a precentage from the earnings you made while you were working for them. they can as a company not want to pay, thus making you not get anything from the gov't.
check this site:
good luck!

you get a percentage of your wage for only 6 months.
at least that's the case in illinois.
if that's not a big enough kick in the face you have to pay taxes on that shit. at the end.
wtf. if you're on unemployment how the fuck are you supposed to pay one lump sum of taxes on it?
fuckin mind boggling.

when i was in texas, my roomate went on unemployment. he sat around the apt all day getting high, not looking for jobs, and getting paid. nice.
in ny, i heard its like 350 max a week. and it take about a month to go into effect.

also here:
http://workforcesecurity.doleta.…--there are many loop hole with the department of labor, for example, when you claim unemployment, as long as you have a freelance job and not a fulltime job ,your claim lasts up for 1 full year, meaning you can freelance every other week and the weeks you arent freelancing you can sit back and claim nop work and the govt will pay you the amount you will recieve...this can be very helpful in taking vacations or just sitting back and puffing on some trees and then landing better work.
also everything during the freelance is a write off! everything $500 and under that is, also half your rent and food and movies and clothing and anything you purchase, every receipt you better keep, so when you write stuff off you have collateral receipts to back you up just in case an audit comes around and you will be fine.
also get an accountant and they can help you thru the real loopholes of the system as there are soooooo many holes!!!
imagine how many holes there are in our prez bush's brain! you will have the same eamount in getting past the system and having them send you check for smoking up in your own home!!
smile!!! and relax!!!

I thought if you were unemployed in the States that they round you up in old school buses, drive you out to the suburbs, and make you wash dishes in restaurants for Dick Clark...

I just got word that my former employer forgot to report 1st and 2nd Quarter earnings to the state of PA over the last year. f*cking morons.... now my claim is in dispute.
It'll go from $375 to $478 per week for 26 weeks.
lovely if it's true...

im collecting max benefits in california right now, I get 450 a week before taxes, which cuts it back to around 440, or 438 or something. You can collect for a max of 6 months. It's easy as all hell and you don't even have to look for work, you check the boxes sign your name and send it out on the correct day.
The amount you get is dependent on your wages, if you make over 22 bucks an hour I think you get max amount. The length of time is dependent on how long you've worked at your current job. I was at mine for 3 years, I think that 2 years will give you the full 6 months.
They tell you that you can collect for a year, but they only pay you half as much.
Hope that helps.

That helps a lot!
Thanks!
