Damn, apple goes quad processor... Good pricing for the machine, but the maximum ram of 16 GB is almost 5 times the machineprice :(

geh?

16GB of ram.... in how many years from now will that much RAM actually be required??? Just look how much it costs!
*sharts*
- MrDinky0
they are really trying to get rid of their processor stock huh

guess the software needs to be multi-processor proof again. focussed on quad processing.

The Dual-core G5 is new to the Apple lineup. What makes you think they're trying to get rid of their stock if they're brand new?
- MrDinky0
all the previous mac has dual
so now they have quad.
dual + dual = quad
yay
more processor stock to get rid

Computers have gotten as fast as they will go. They're not going to go any faster in a way you can notice.
Save the money, buy Anicot Steel.

have you tried getting one with every option? it costs $25k+ more than my car
- shutdown0
but if you buy one more expensive than your car you in effect saving the evironment
the value of that is priceless :)

$15,998.00 after you fill it to the max with RAM and add a 20" monitor. That's insane!!!!

it's great they're now offering a quadro card. it's about time.
- determinedmoth0
Haha.
Another week, another product.
You're all out of fashion again.

Cleaning out stock so they can start dropping those Intel processors in.
- KILLputer0
its a completely new processor chip- dual on ONE chip.
Buying RAM from Apple has always been the dumbest thing anyonec an do...
Unless your making Pixar movies or the next Lord of the Rings ... you will NEVER even use 16GB of RAM.
Hell for half the things we use computers for- we are barely using 500MHZ of processor speed.

(Oct 20 05, 07:16)Actually a core processor is a processor in another processor, they are new chips entirely.
Also, Apple (while I love em) is notirous for overpriced RAM, you can get the equvialent RAM for about 4K, still a ton of cash, but not 16K.
- CyBrainX0
I DO NOT understand that pricing structure, As you go up, the price goes up exponentially for both types of RAM.
I just can't imagine needing that much RAM anyway.
I don't think the Intel chips are coming for another year.
By then, can we please talk about some decent Powerbooks? My 17" from April of 2003 has a 1 gig processor, as opposed to the new ones with 1.67
Moore is rolling over in his grave. Wait. I think he's still alive.

The reason for the price climbing as the RAM climbs is becasue of the slot limitation. There are 8 slots, so to have 16GB of RAM you need 8 2GB chips. I imagine a 2GB chip is a lot more difficult to manufacture than a 512MB or even a 1GB.
Still, I agree - Apple always has overpriced the RAM, but it is very good RAM.
