i just built one for 20 grand and i puked.
then i built a nice one for 4 grand with the monitor.
honestly.... how many of us need anything more than 2 gigs of ram?

ah my bad
i never been good with reading or number
i auto assumed 2 + 2 = 4
but its actually 1(2)+1(2) = 4
shit....

I guess they had already started working on this since before they made the Intel deal or else this is the stupidest thing ever, it seems like they should actually be phasing out the G5's and on to x86. Intel has already had dual core for a while, no idea why they are wasting time with dual core power pc cpus.

so it's four wheel drive.. sweet
- MLP0
you don't need 16gigs of ram to hit refresh on the PVN

guess the software needs to be multi-processor proof again. focussed on quad processing.
reaction
(Oct 20 05, 07:10)on windows it depends on the actual app being used and if it has multi-proc capabilities, but isn't OS X splitting it system-wide so apps don't need to have it hard coded?

Ha. Just bought my Dell Workstation two months ago for 10K. Now they have the same Quad dual-core cpu's that these Macs do. I just checked Dell's site and did customize. Add 16GB of Ram and it costs you an extra $23,140. WTF is going on.

Davi-t don't be telling people that... let the PC people keep believing Dell computers with the same features are cheaper.
Hell- these guys on NT can build an equivalent PC in their garage with RAM made from old refrigerator parts for only $300 for the whole system.

workstations are a lot more expensive than ur normal desktop. I thought Dell would be cheaper too. I was wrong. But well worth it.
I freaking upgrade and a better one comes out two months later. wtf.

no software will even support 16GB RAM. I have a G5 with 8GB and most software is limited to around 1.5gb, 2gb, rarely will something support 4gb. makes it all kind of pointless.
