If there is no way to talk to them and deal with it amicably, then by all means file a claim. I was only warning generally to anyone in your situation not to lose their head and do or say something that could damage their case/claim.
If you have all documentation and agreements then you have legitimate right to do something about it. Don't give up. Don't wave off debt collectors either. Most don't charge you unless they get your money, so what have you to lose?
Not just for yourself, but all of us in the industry... fight!

Good luck with getting paid.

I'd go talk to them and let them know that if they didn't pay on the spot you will be forced to purse some of the legal routes/debt collection. Its amazing how ppl change face-to-face
i am reading far too many stories like this recently tho. not good
good luck

Go to an attorney. Give them a scare. if u have a signed contract with 'special' clauses' AND they still don't decide to pay THEN take them to claims, sue them for the balance and attorney fees etc.
The scare worked for me. Consult your attorney first. 9K is not exactly a small amount of loot.

Fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live. At least a while... And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance - just one chance - to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!!I can see KOKO dressed up in Medieval clothing fighting for his 9000 bucks to death :)

You guys are awesome. I laugh to your good sense of humor. To be hones I didn't want to look bitter.
The fact is that when I talked to the guy I was trying to understand his position and give him a break. I just feel bad about giving a 100% in my work and been just dished out and it concerns me with future clients.I usually have a great relationship with the people I work with and this situatioin left a sour taste in my mouth, that's all.
But ey, the laughs I got from some of your postings were worth it.
Cheer everyone.

only had one dead beat client, and I eventually got paid the 7K so it all worked out.
