I am sure this thread has been posted before or something of the sort, so I guess today is my turn.
I have a client who ows me $9.000 and is not going to pay. The thing has been dragging for months. Yes we have a contract but I read about taking him to small claims court, and it is not woth since I still will have to collect the money on my own.. pretty much what I am trying to do right now.
It seems there is no way I can make this company to pay me.
Any suggestions, words of consolation? I need a shouolder to cry on.
Sorry about the shit.

what work did you do for them?
- lvl_130
same thing happened to me about 8 months back for the same amount of money.
file a claim! you will still have to collect the money but it will be a court order. i ended up getting about 3/4 of it as an 'agreed' settlement.

in the contract did it state the price and the work to fulfill the contract?
can we see the work? if you charged him 9k just for 2 html pages i will be shocked hehe

Same thing is happening to me right now but for a lot less. It sucks no matter how much a client owes.

if you go to court they can place a judgement against the company and / or person which will prhibit them from taking out any credit extensions until you are paid.
So in short, no cars, no checking account, etc etc

I did a bunch of animations in flash. All rush so I was working over night several days. That's why it was too latte when I realized they were not going to pay.

Am I supposed to do superior court? I whis there was a website with a list of clients that don't pay, so we freelancers could go and check and be on guard...
mmmm... that gave me an idea.
:P

Hey Choss....I don't think I can tonight. I'm meeting a sexy girl for dinner. If we don't end up getting together then I will definitely be on. Otherwise lets plan on playing sometime over the next couple nights.

Choss, I'll send you an email later today. I wanna ask you about life/work opportunities over in Glasgow......you're in Glasgow right?

you should just be able to go into small claims court and file a claim. it costs $35 and only takes a small amount of time to fill out paperwork.

It was web, but I was doing the work for a design company as a contractor and they were delivering to the client, so everything was on their server.... bummer

Cool, thanks Choss. I'll write you later.

tell this company that if they don't pay, you will write to all their clients to talk about the way they treat the people they work with.

Luis,
It happened to me recently from a studio in NYC, although on a much smaller scale, only about $1000.
I chocked it up as a learning experience, but it also gave me an idea...setting some sort of global variable that controls whether or not the movie will play properly.
Flash has sandbox security, so with an XML crossdomain policy it seems like you could turn off and on your movie regardless of what server its on.
Too bad man, if its any conciliation, I've always been a fan of your work :)

I thought about that. It is just that it seems at the end I will get stuck without the money... and guys, I could really use it to cover some holes.

name of this company ?
we could make a black list !

You should pursue it. 9,000 is a lot of $$ and even if you don't get it all it's better than rolling over and giving up.
