read the first 10 pages of foucault's pendulum, and if you're not ready to hurl you'll probably like the rest of the book.
talk about a guy who writes for the sake of reading his own pompous garbage. he may have some original ideas but i just can't get past his horrible writing style.

Bill Pullman (Serpent and the Rainbow, Lost Highway) would have fit the character more than Hanks. When I read the book, I pictured Bill looking like Indiana Jones...

i think pullman could work, although he sorta lost it in independence day, IMO.
willem dafoe is offbeat but good enough to pull off that role. he doesn't have those movie star looks so i'm sure lots of people would pooh-pooh the idea.
