how do my fellow NTers feel about genetically engineered foods?
70% of what's packaged and bought in the grocery store is altered...does this bother you? do you want labels?
- TheTick0
So, wait are you saying this food is DESIGNED? Is it designed by god?
- Bluejam0
as long as it's intelligently designed.

thx version3, i've read lots online. i'd like to know what you all think about it.

shop at a 'whole foods' store if it bothers you. or, stop bitching and grow your own like a real man.
nothing manlier than being down on your hands and knees in the garden all sweaty in the hot sun with your shirt off, muscles rippling in the light as the sweat drips down your....
holy shit. that's gay.
fuck it. i'm eating engineered food.

who cares, you'll eat anything if you're hungry. do you even know what you're eating right now? pesticides, hormones, corn cross bred with moths, whatever tastes good. i personally don't care
watch the video on my link

it bothers me a lot and for a lot of different reasons.
the two major ones, i suppose are:
a. we don't know what eating this shit does to us, and
b. we're starting to see dangerous socio-economic trends emerging along with the advent of the gm age; eg: the lower the socio-economic class, the less likely they will have access to fresh, natural, healthy food. you see a lot of yuppie soccer moms (often in their 40s and rockin' twins or triplets because of the rather drastic measures they've had to take to get knocked up in the first place) driving fuck off suvs and buying organic produce and doing yoga.
the more that natural foodstuffs are treated as a status symbol, the further out of reach they become for society's poor, who, in turn, bear the marks of obesity and diabetes. it's fucked.

will not kill you
- paraselene0
you don't know that jaz. and fuck our little lifetimes and whether or not it will kill you. what are we doing to the environment and various gene pools? i avoid that shit like the plague, because it probably is one. i don't care if organic free range meat costs more. it's not healthy to eat it as often as we do, anyways. we, as a species, until about two decades ago, would never have considered eating meat two or three times a day to be normal. more like two or three times a week...

i try to eat whole foods as much as possible but yes it is mad expensive and tiem consuming

engineered food has been around since the 50s.
more than enough time for research.
plus the fda has it's say with everything.
you can't just walk around your farm shooting your cows in the face with steroids and cocaine then expect to walk into a store and sell the meat to the deli for straight cash homey, straight cash.
- JazX0
I don't think so anyway... I feel fine, you have to do everything in moderation anyway. It's the overinduglence of sh*t that catches up with you. No matter what it is, even exercise

lol @ kOna, as usual
- version30
would you rather eat nothing like those from 3rd world countries? do you want famine to sweep across your land?
whole foods are easily found through private growers at more than reasonable costs
frequenting both california and kansas in my life i know exactly where to purchase fresh produce with having to go to a whole foods chain or trader joes
i'd still eat a softball sized cherry though
- version30
*without having to go

i'd still eat a softball sized cherry though

(Oct 7 05, 09:38)with whipped cream with a girl with a nice rump black @ss, that's what Goldfrapp meant about 'Black Cherry'.

have you seen this album:
http://www.platdujour.co.uk/not so much about chemically engineered food but more on process i guess
good stuff

and actually, the whole steroid scare with meat is pretty crazy. do you have any idea how much steroids cost? for a vile of test you're looking at $300. that's an 8 week cycle for a grown man shooting 2cc every 7 days. it's impossible to think they're shooting up mad turkeys and cows with that shit.
it's more about protein. when i used to work on the farm we bought a special protein blend we fed the cows to keep them healthy and big.
kinda like the shitty atkins diet got blown out of proportion, so did the pesticide, steroid, you don't know what you're eating craze.
- paraselene0
v3, nobody wants famine. which is why i make the point in my initial post that that's one of the things that bothers me about gm food. we really don't get that much of it. it's all being shunted off to the 3rd world and/or the 3rd world conditions of your local mc donalds or kfc. we're building a bifurcated food economy and i don't think it's necessary, what with all the perfectly good non-gm food that goes to waste every day. and there are also other options for the mass production of protein-rich nutrition (quorn) that don't involve genetic modification.
anyhoo, have a lovely weekend y'all, it's just gone six and i'm off to my tricks.
