for sure mate— dont be phased by the 'dont crash' thing.
just be aware that it does happen - easily.
have fun - and keep your eyes on the road and you SHOULD be fine!

As a first bike I can suggest 2 bikes at the moment that are not the "boring" ones.
First is the Suzuki SV650, Pretty good styling, cheap to repair (if you drop it) and cheap to buy, even from new.
http://www.thebikereview.com/new…Or the new Kawasaki ER-6F or N (Faired or Naked)
But if you want to spend more then the Buell City-X is....different but still a nice new funky bike

enine is all over it. nothing better for fixing your head than a motorcycle.
here's mine:
here's shots from a run in september:
http://www.brianlaw.net/dogrun_2…seriously, just get one and enjoy the hell out of it.

If I had the money, the time and the skills I would build my own

:)That Buell City-X is beautiful, btw.

the City-X is around the £6,495 area for brand new.
now is a good time to get a bike as it's the end of the summer. Never buy a bike just before the summer

read this book
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obido…It's not about motorcycles, but in a way it is.

Yeah, I've read it. Actually I started to read a passage out loud to a friend and ended up reading the whole book to him in an allnighter.

Get youself down the Birmingham NEC show later this month.
Buell usually have a great stand but DO NOT sit on the XB9R's as you'll soon forget about the City-X!! :)

Buell is harley so it's almost like owning without looking like you're having a mid-life crisis

So would you guys rate the monster as a good first bike...? I have the chance to buy one

i love the look of any big old cruiser, not just h-d.
riding my fatboy is like doing 70 mph in an easy chair. plus, if you have enough tattoos you look natural on a harley. :)

The moster is a good bike to start on but I personally don't like the servicing responsibility that comes with a duke.

I love my retro Honda. It's a 73 750, and I can do almost all the servicing on it myself. Not only that... I fell in love with the style. There is a new triumph scrambler style that is soooo sweet, and has that retro vibe (without the maintenance) ... yummy!
To be fair though, my bike rocks, and doesn't need that much baby-ing. What a tank! 32 years old and still goin strong.

damn thirtytwo, that ktm is fucking crazy.
blaw, nice shots of the rally, looks like a lot of fun. i'm checking out a few for next season right now.
as for the buells in the thread--i actually know a dude who got a killer deal on a brand new buell from a dealer down in texas. the bike is super light, everything built in to the frame, and has a real cool sporty-but-minimal design. and it's got tons o power.
if you want a sport bike but don't want a lot of plastic, a buell would be your best bet.
i've heard good things about those suzukis too, though i've never seen one on the street.
this is what i'm riding now:
man, i might be immune to some of this sport bike stuff, i just realized that with all of that plastic up front, i don't know what i'm actually looking at, and it comes down to the color and the shape :)
time to educate myself i guess.
