you want a bike for under 15k?
you thinking custom harley type bike or sport bike?
you can pick up a nice soft tail for about 12k and customize to your liking,
or, if you're into the sport bike i'd go with a buell. solid made and sporty as hell. light, nimble and fast.

man... if you you want a crotch rocket i would pick up an used ducati 916... an all time classic.
i love my early '94 ducati m-900... 10 years old and still a total head turner... the newer models are less cool.

Get youself down the Birmingham NEC show later this month.
Buell usually have a great stand but DO NOT sit on the XB9R's as you'll soon forget about the City-X!! :)

first bike 15k?
hahahah... don't even try to go there. seriously, ... first bikes are about getting something good that will last, and staying with it for a while, then getting what you *really* want.you'll probably drop it a few times, which really isn't a big deal, but start out easy then work it up. plus, you know, if you get your dream machine right off the bat, what are you going to lust over? that's half the fun.
if you can rock 5k, you will get a killer bike that's a 3-5 years old and will run + look like new. easy enough.
then sell it for more than you bought it, and get a bike that you learn you want by what you don't like about that bike.
i mean, in my book, any bike is a good bike. it's about the riding.
as for insurance, i'm 27, live in manhattan, and it's only 400 bux a year through progressive. and it was only 280 when i had a 750cc (the 1100cc is what pushed it up)
can't wait to hit up ebay and cycletrader to see what they've got for ya ;)

yeah, ducatis are beautiful, but they require way more maintenance than a jap bike.
re-adjust the valves every 4k? i don't think so!

i love the look of any big old cruiser, not just h-d.
riding my fatboy is like doing 70 mph in an easy chair. plus, if you have enough tattoos you look natural on a harley. :)

I'm purely recreational. Riding and commuting around L.A. is too crazy for me.
Mostly I just like weekend rides and road trips with my broheims.
You should get one, so gawd damned fun!
iPod playing Refused at 90 miles per=good day.

The moster is a good bike to start on but I personally don't like the servicing responsibility that comes with a duke.

My first was a '90 Honda Hawk GT. (no pics of mine)
http://www.hawkgt.com/photoalbum…
Bad ass V-twin sound, esp. after pipes and jet kit added. After it got ripped off, i got a Kawi EX500. (you see I'm 5' 7" so not many bike were comfortable, agian no pics of mine.
Cost me $2k used with 1500 miles on it. So far I've put 33k miles on it and counting. Wrecked it 3 times (each time a dumb-ass drivers fault) Broke the hand and some road rash.
Next will be a cafe racer project...
Wear full gear, and take the safety course.
