• The daily race to see who can stay later than 6, and the expected "is there anything I can help you with?" if you try leaving on time.
• Listing to my boss puff up his lame ideas as if they're exiting and zow wow biff pow, everyone will love it!
• Trying to fill the hours of the day. I have next to nothing to do cuz my client and (other, cooler) boss are away for a while.
• Watching everyone's workload increase as our client list gets longer, but knowing it'll be a cool day in hell before another designer is hired, because that would mean leaving on time.
• Knowing that no matter how perfect a piece is, that first boss will find something to change. Kerning! Really! He wanted the kerning changed!
Actually this job is pretty good.

the creatives love it. the owner hates it. start over. client hates it. start over. client hates it. show original that was scrapped by boss. client loves it.
clients wife hates it. client scraps concept. start all over.
client: "can we have someone in a gorilla suit?"
creative: "but you are a pizza restaurant!"
boss: "nothing says 'pizza' like a man in a gorilla suit! now, back to your cage!"

I know I've heard one too many stories this week about how a designer is afraid to charge the client what they feel a job is worth....and for no particular reason.

client says:"we are looking for something new. so think outside the box"
translation: "nail the lid on that damn box!"
client says: "i love it! i think we may need some minor changes but this is fantastic"
translation: "the commitee of 19 is going to bastardize this little gem right out of your portfolio and into your nightmares. BWUH HA HA HA!"

no variety.
i dont work for clients, just in house, but they refuse to use anything other than arial and impact fonts. they have this thinking that stylish/retro fonts are not good.
sometimes the visuals and the fonts dont match; it makes me look bad as a designer.

OMG, I went for an interview a few years back at a company called Purple Fish, I asked why they were called that and the response was "because the owner is a Pisces and her favorite colour is purple"I nearly walked out...

convincing clients that the logo their retarded niece made on her light-brite 12 years ago is a piece of shit.

in the corporate environment that i work in, i have to deal with 50s and 60s year old suits who's ideas and vision are very outdated.
they think their old school marketing ideas will work in todays college world. not going to happen.
then i work with 12 hot, blonde and stupid marketing girls who think they know design and constantly question my work.
i had one try to explain to me contrasting colors when the colors she wanted were complimentary colors.
i deal with this shit on a daily basis.

bosses/clients has bad taste
they dont understand that i refuse to steal low res pictures from the internet
they thought doing changes only takes 5mins
they thought graphic designers know Autocad or other architecture/3d softwares.
they think black is the best color.
they thought designing is as easy as filling and typing.
they love to buy expensive art magazines/books and want you to follow whatever's that are inside.
it sucks!!!!

(Sep 22 05, 08:21)amen to that.
and an eps? fuck... i've explained the whole vector vs. raster thing a million times.
I have an e-mail i would send out every time i had a problem getting a logo from a client service rep. i would send the exact same e-mail out every time the issue came up.
It started to get to the reps when they saw the EXACT same e-mail every time. one poor lady broke down into tears after she realized her own ineptitude.

oh, and in the past two days i've reworked one piece 12 times. each time changing a small part. it's almost like i'm sending the project to sybil and each time a new personality is looking at the piece.
her last change. "oops. that's the old logo, use this one, and change it to white, inverse it and change the address".
my response. "why didn't you notice this in revision 1? and sounds like i need to charge you for a re-design of your logo"
unreal. again. this is daily bullshit.

more and more people can do what designers do (or think they can because they have the software) and subsequently design work is completely undervalued.
it's hard not to get disallusioned.
