yeah, i got the gif and jpg all set, but the bitmap is a bitch. so you say a font like garamond is pretty much impossible?

what size and resolution is the image, and what pt size is the garamond?

If I'm getting this correctly, you want a true bitmap (black and white) not bmp. You'll need photoshop for that.
make sure you're working with black and white only, in bitmap mode (or greyscale mode, then convert) or you'll get some weird dither effects.set the type anti-alias settings to none and use one of the popular system fonts (eg arial, verdana, times, georgia) as they have good hinting at small sizes.
garamonds x-height is too low for small screen print. try using georgia or times... and if you're going below 10px or 11px consider switching to a sans.
verdana is pretty readable down to 8px

i'm using garamond at like 4pt. it's shit. i don' tkno wwhat to do.

yeah not going to happen at 72dpi, you need a pixel font
