i grew up there... pretty solid music scene, good bars, but very little along the lines of art culture aside from some really highbrow i'll stick it in my mansion art. if looking for places to live, i'd look in the highlands or the new developing downtown before it gets expensive.
where are you working down there? doe anderson? creative alliance?
don't go to 4th street live. ever. it is a giant frat party for 40somethings.

louisville is a pretty forward thinking midwest city... i'd compare it to cincinatti or indianapolis, but not as spread out as the other two. louisville isn't anything like your KY stereotypes, but head out to the south end or outside of the city and it gets pretty redneck pretty fast.

i'd definitely go check out makers mark. they have tours and free tasting... its definitely the coolest out of the ones i've been to
