xmas? you know I would love to, but I have my AA meeting then, plus I'm wearing an anti-rape condom so I can't make it.
Just kidding - trying out my new excuses. They work!! :D
We should definitely set somethign up, around xmas is probably when I run out of my Paderborner reserve and need to get down for refill.

Compromise: show up late, leave early. Suck it up and endure some pain.

well normally people stop inviting me (and get a clue) after about 10 rejections...but since they've already invited you 5000 times (haven't got a clue) and you have rejected them 4999 times, i would say rejecting it 5000 times would make no difference.
just say "no thank you" with no excuse.

I'm finding myself in this exact dilemma recently. Old workmates coming into my place of work and hanging around til I talk to them and the only way I can escape is to arrange to meet them somewhere.
i sympathise jox....i've tried the cancelling of dates and polite thanks but no thanks. I've also tried grinning and bearing it and it's just too exhausting to repeat. I've also tried being rude. These types people are too stupid to realise that they may irritate anyone because they think they are sooooo awesome and cool!
My recent tactic is to tell them that I don't have much spare time to myself so when i do I like to spend it with my other half, family or close friends..emphasis on "close". It seems to be working so far.
Good luck!
