"The New York Times’ coverage headlined, “Storms Vary With Cycles, Experts Say” (Aug. 30). The Times interviewed Colorado State’s Dr. Gray who pointed out that from 1995 to 2003, 32 major hurricanes with sustained winds of 111 miles per hour or greater formed in the Atlantic. Only 1 in 10 of those hurricanes struck the U.S. at full strength – historically the rate has been 1 in 3. Then last year three of six (1 in 2) major hurricanes hit the U.S.
Dr. Gray attributed last year’s activity to chance. “We were very lucky in that eight-year period, and the luck just ran out,” he told the Times."

neil, your comments are innacurate...
obesity rates are increasing...
AND we are having now big problems with racism/immigration.the bright side of this is that we are actually debating (or at least discussing a little) about it.

"Now you know. Ppl in America are not all red neck fcuks so you have no excuse to make ignorant comments but if you want to keep being angry go right ahead you seem to be amongst freinds that enjoy making angry comments that generalize ppl in this country in the middle of such a terrible disaster."
Again, arinya, words are being put into my mouth.
thank you and welcome to my ignore list.
i like to debate with people who actually read what i write.

one last thing Arinya, do not ever call me ignorant again, i am close to certain that i, and pardon my arrogance, read and see more about politics and society then most of the PVN'ers that call me ignorant do.

I know I'm disgusting. Each time I fart after eating ganja brownies it really stinks

prejudice comes from ignorance, not knowing enough. and yes, i may not know all, but i have seen more then enough.

Nice one! Seriously, Yanks are not all bad. But generally, a big reality check is required.

in that case, apologies jaz.
i hate it when people consistently interpret by convenience and thus subjectively.

Europe: Hey America, your country sucks.
America: I agree, we have some problems. You do to, though.
Europe: No. Europe is awesome. I love it.
America: I love America.
Europe: Haha, loser.
America: Whatever. So what do you propose we do to solve our problems?
Europe: _____________** Oh wait, instead of saying nothing, it's probably much more productive to say stop bombing other countries and using gas.
Also, congratulations to theplanet for making sense.

pfft, i do care what people say about my country, everyone should. but in a way that encourages you to look to your own nation from a distance.. and i do that whenever i can.
But i never feel like i am stepped on my toe or someone is calling like my family names or something.
a country is a country, an abstract territory with political borders, how can comments on this really offend anyone? seems unhealthy to me.
and for the very last time, i have never verbally vomited on all the people within a nation itself, only on the nation as a whole, and if you feel you are part of the problem get working on it.
I for once know, that most people here did not vote for the current US govt., nor did i ever vote for the current bush-copy-meatball we have in charge here in NL right now.
debate, discussion and confrontation are key when there is a crisis, if you don't like it you can stick your head in the sand, but let me warn you, it is people that stuck their head a little too deep in the sand that helped the current wave of rightwing christian hypocrits to power.
i for one have nothing against anyone in this thread, it's all peace.
but i will not just avoid a discussion like this any longer.
i did before but that was honestly a rather ignorant deed on my side.
ps. Arinya, it's all good.

(Sep 6 05, 07:49)well, according to your rather insulting and direct comments here i would not conclude that you are such a perfect example of litteracy and intellect, mate!
- ********0
What's disgusting is the lack of intelligence and understanding amongst us that we generalize about nations and people we don't even know.
Sad.
