Click the image to advance through a couple pages/layout ideas.
Still playing with typography but I'd be keen to hear people's initial impressions.
I haven't decided if the site is going to be in flash or clean xhtml/css yet.
When you click on an image in the projects section it will come over the text like a layer, with a close button..that sort of thing....

First impression....not a fan of the BG color. I would like to see more white introduced if that color is final. I am guessing residential architects? Have you seen their work (style) yet?

... it's really chilly feeling, dude... and dark. I want it warmer... but I'm satisfied w/the layout - simple... but...eh.. I guess you could slide it right in the ol' 'been there, seen that' envelope.

Yeah I suppose it is a bit...dark....
She does beautiful log home type residences...really top quality stuff.
I just wanted to get away from the style of every other architect website which all seem to be very similar...white bg...greys etc...
This is only one design direction - I'm working on another as we speak.

If she has such great work, why not incorporate it? I have never seen a good architecture site that included "log" type homes. Could be interesting....I do think that color is too cold though....

Some of the spacing/proportioning of the layout seems very arbitrary and looks very ugly. Look athe the spacing more carefully and proportion it better, this is an architectual firm and proportions are probably important to them as well. The spacing of "Adrea Vaugh Architects" to fit the grid is useless and really ugly. The typography (I know you said its not done) for the headlines is bad too. The extra leading and color change are not nearly enough contrast to differentiate the two parts. The menu is sorta boring, but the least of your concerns right now.
Oh, and the logo is ugly, especially in that box, but I'm guessing you probably didn't make it nor have control over it.

the lay-out is straight forward and simple but a bit boring, not much designed
if she is working with log house types try to use this in the design... without making it kitch
