One of the reasons I'm liking Google Talk is because I can actually download it on my work computer. I don't have downloading privileges for almost every program, but I can download GT!

Adium is the best way to go for the mac, only one icon in the dock. But it supports google talk, AIM, .mac, yahoo, MSN, ICQ, Bonjour, Sametime and jabber all in the same app.

A lot of people seem to be using msn messenger nowadays. That program won't work on my mac.

I used to have ICQ back when ICQ was still in, but never use it anymore. I like the idea of numbers, but it probably gets hard for people to remember. Not that you have to memorize user names though. MSN is what everyone is using now. AIM / iCHAT will both probably be on the sidelines for a long time.
I'm guessing that GTalk will be popular after a few months, because it's so simple and many people are getting Gmail accounts now. GTalk is another incentive to get a Gmail account, as demonstrated by an NT user in this thread, who didn't previously have an account.
Anyway, I have no problems with it, as long as I don't have to use 4 different instant messaging systems just to talk to a few people.

i don't use msn because i don't want to use my hotmail address anymore.
i like that with aim you don't need an email address.
but i think aol is going to go the way of the dodo bird soon. i don't even know how they are still around.

That's what I mean. Even with Trillian, you have to log in to all your accounts at different times. There's a setting to login to all your accounts upon start-up, but then it's annoying to change the setting. For some reason it's just not as easy to use.
