Who makes a better car?
Thoughts?

My V6 Jetta has been faithful the last 5 years. Nothing but oil changes!

i have a golf an d i do love it - but an acura is prob more reliable/durable/cheaper to fix.... but not as nice of a drive

In the long run, Acura wins.
VW's are very beloved by their owners, but depreciate horribly the second you drive it off the lot. I've always heard that warning from people. I know all cars depreciate but VW's are supposed to be the worst.
Acura make nice cars, they've always held a nice line with their looks compared to other more expensive cars.

Good feedback.

Plus, Acura invented the NSX. None of us can afford one, but the NSX is quite possibly the coolest under $100,000 sports car ever put on the market.

(Aug 17 05, 07:29)in your opinion.
there are a lot of cars that can be had under 100k.

Sorry mg33 but that is not true. I had switched the title of my VW and found out it's still worth 10k and it's 5 years old and hit 100k miles. VW's do not depreciate that bad.

" there are a lot of cars that can be had under 100k."
No kidding.
That's why I said "sports car" and the words "quite possibly" also imply opinion.Anyhow, to be more exact, I guess I'll mention that they invented what is quite possible the coolest under $100,000 sports car made of aluminium ever put on th market.

vw got personality

I do like VW's though, and looking at Acura's current models, VW's have a little more points in the cool department. That 4 door Golf or whatever it is looks great.

acuras and vw generally don't compete with each other. the only cars that competes against each other are the new jetta and the rsx/tsx. but the jetta starts at 19k and tsx at 25k msrp. it's just that the jetta's options can add to 25k+ while the tsx has virtually no options.
if you are shopping between these two cars, it will boil down to what you want out of the car. the styling? features? reliability? performance? safety?

I have a 2001 integra now. It's a great car, but a bit small for me.
I am hoping for the future; something 4 door, still quick, last long and not a ton of $. I love the VW style. but have read enough articles about how they are junk junk junk...
Someone prove me wrong?

Article I found:
I have a new 2002 Jetta 1.8T, I have taken it into service repeatly as the transmission freezes continually, this is dangerous and they refuse to replace the car. A new car should not be doing this! Now they tell me they will have the car over two months while ordering a new transmission from Germany. I drive 200 miles a day in my commute to work and I really need a good car. This car has stranded me several times and now I am stuck in a rental car, partially at my own expense. I don't want a repaired new car, I paid for a new car!

More:
"Visham of Richlands, NC (10/20/02):
I purchased a 2002 VW Jetta GLX VR6 on may 20th 02. Since the purchase of the vehicle I have made numerous trips to the dealership for service on the engine because of the check engine light being illuminated. At first it was dismissed as a misfire and the computer reset. It happened again and I was told that it needed plugs replaced. OK, they replaced the plugs. It happened again on a road trip to Fla and when I got back to a dealership they did some investigations and told me that I had a misfire and low compression in some of the cylinders. They removed the head from the vehicle and sent it to the machine shop for a valve job (this is all happening under 10k mi). I wrote a letter to the CEO VW America requesting an extended warranty on the power train because I felt as though I would be having a problem right around the time the factory warranty would be ending. Initially by customer care I was told that this is something that VW does not do. I have not heard anything from VW's CEO. OK, here I am again after getting the vehicle back from the dealership after the head is cleaned and replaced, and you guessed it the check engine light comes on and again I find myself with a brand new car with its engine taken apart at the dealership and no answer to what is causing the problem with the engine light.
I have written numerous letters to VW America about my situation being a Marine on active duty and not having time to be fooling around with a Lemon car. I also told them about how I am being searched at the front gate on a daily basis because I am in a rental. In a nut shell VW America does not care about VW owners."

i have a97 golf with almost 100k miles been good to me

the new Jetta looks like a cheap Toyota.
We have a Jetta III with 87K. We've had to replace the trans and the water pump and that's about it.
We purposely bought one with manual windows. VWs are notorious for electrical problems.

this could get ugly. but i'll try to keep it short. ALL cars have problems. do VWs have more than most? possibly. but people who own honda, acura, lexus, nissan, etc. have the exact same problems too.
i personally LOVE my VW and feel that it has the best style/performance for cars in its class. the minor issues don't really bother me.
