the files will not be running from a TV console, they will most probably be running from a PC or a thing we call a medialink console, which is basically a pc.

if you are using beta SP then yes it's shite and an analog format.
- sajets_v20
Then maybe it's better to make MPG out of it because it's certain that every PC plays them but don't have soft to play QT movies.
Fot that i export Lossless AVI file with audio and use some freeware AVI to MPG prog to make a decent sized playable video out of it. Usually with 8 Mb per second bitrate.

Ok ive not read any of the other posts as they are too many,
but in 3D studio max if you were rendering a movie you would select a tiff option or something which adds and alpha channel, not to sure what option you select as the output will have to ask a mate of mine, but that will output your movie will a transparent background easy peasy!
- Bullitt0
parenting is used for one layer to control another, you wont use that for this.
To make a matte -
duplicate the movie and apply whatever effects so that your white background is still white, but the object in the movie is jet black.
Once you have that, place it dircetly above the original movie on the timeline.
Then on the original movie, in the second column of the timeline select from the 'TrkMat' option whichever one of the four options that works, as when you select one of them your white will disappear.
Does that make any sense?
ps- if the second column on the timeline is showing the motion blur/ 3d layer option ect, then go to the bottom and click where it says Switches / Modes.
This doesnt seem to wanna work, I made a b/w version of the 3d movie clip, with the object pure black... placed the layer above original movie clip then clicked the trk matt.. its doing somthing, but not getting rid of that white background??

i say - re-render your 3d comp and use a setting with an alpha channel. you're wasting way too much time on this.
- sajets_v20
So you've placed B/W rendering (where black is objects and white background) just above your original anim?
Then select Inverted Luma Matte for your BOTTOM footage. This makes your top layer act as an alpha channel for the Bottom layer.
- Bullitt0
Its not having it....
- Bullitt0
nope, dont get why thats not working, must be somthing I havent set correctly....
- paddywop0
mate, if you got black on white then click the bottom layer to alpha inverted matte. see if that works.
also, make sure your comp background colour (under 'compositon' in the tool bar) is not set to white, otherwise you'll never see if its working or not.
- sajets_v20
can you send me your workfile. Doesn't matter that i don't have your footage... I'll look at it and fix it with some reference i might have on my home PC.

Like others have said you should just find the setting in the 3D program and render it out with the alpha channel, then you wouldn't have to fuss with this. I'm sure the setting is there, just check the render dialogue in the 3d program.
- Bullitt0
sajets, I'l send you that file tommorow mornin GMT, thanks bud.
- Illroot, iam using 3d swift 6.5 for the 3d, it has a quicktime save as tiff option, which Ive tried already, but has some dodgy effect when importing into AE, distorts the mask somewhat -looks like a barcode.
- version30
rerender your footage from swift 3d with the chroma green bacground R:0 G:255 B:0 then use the keying feature mentioned in the earlier posts
- Bullitt0
you one of the sincity crew or somthing?lol
- Bullitt0
I'l give it a go though, thanks
- version30
i've tried using other colors as the mask color, but never had any luck. if you use the chroma green it seems to work perfectly. i dunno, just my experience.
if i was in anyway involved with troublemaker studios, i'd stop wasting time here, trust me :)

Hi I haven't read all the posts, so I have no idea if someone had said this but if you have the original 3d file re-render the clip with an alhpa channel then you won't need to key anything out.
