my amte told me how they did the no boards and I thought it was pretty cool.
The camera has a recordable motion function (probaby running along a train track type thing too) so they film the whole section with noone in it, then ask the skater to sk8 the same path and one simple little button in After Effects (once you've placed both recordings in there one on top of the other) called 'Keying' , set it to the green and hey presto the magic happens.
There you go.

I seriously doubt that they did that with After Effects. Countless other more robust film packages have been doing the same thing for a long time.
I could be wrong, but I wouldn't think that After Effects would be used for movies of that length.

im guessing it was shot in 2 passes one on a green board and keyed out on th flame or something higher end. Id imagine spike jonze has access to top notch equipment.

They did use green boards, they show how it's done in the extras.
I was going to correct josimarX about the two camera pass thing, but think about it: There's no other way that they could get what's beneath and behind the green board unless they had the same video without someone skating in it.
Actually, all of the parts with the invisible boards, the camera is on flat ground, and not held by someone in motion.
The only other way it could be done is repeated clone stamping in PS of each frame.

yeah, suck it ya fuds. After effects / flame whatever – a post production thingy which has keying. Ask Chossy, he told me about the whole thing.

it looks like it was edited frame by frame seeing as which the wheels trucks deck are all gone and the shadows have been edited to just the feet

They just made simple clean plates because the footage is so fast and yes used AF to key it because its not a viable option to use something like flame for that. A skate video buget is no where near a hollywood film buget.
