What music are you playing?

I have a set of Stantons, they work just fine, but obviously Technics are the fav. Stantons are more digitalized.

Playing: Hip Hop, Jazz, soul, funk, cutting, scratching mixing, the usual
Ting – Nah mean brudda?I expected the 1210's to be popular, Was Also lloking at Vestex/Numark as well?
What kind of price range is good then I was hoping £150 each (if you buy individually off ebay?)

1200's are monsters and if treated right will last forever. Any other turntable doesn't compare. You pay though for the name. Just starting out you don't need them though, especially if you are just learning.

If you are just starting off i wouldnt recommend techs cause of the price tag. All you need are decks with auto-turnbelt and you are off to the races. Dont get it twisted tho... nothing compares to 1200's.

yup, dance, 'specially if you're just getting started, you can learn on anything. don't need a ferrari if a peugeot will do, hey. when i was first learning i used to hang out on a really great site for beginners, but i don't recollect the name. i'll have a dig in old bookmarks and see if i can find it for you.

"I'm a designer and I live in London which means I love Dance music and I really want to impress other designers and everyone i'm learning to 'spin' and can I play at your house party please? I really really want to get off a crowded bus with a silver record box covered in stickers."
Sorry, I couldn't help it.

It's to late to jump on the turntable bandwagon. It left the station 6 or 7 years ago.

if you want to play vinyl... get tech m3ds, better yet buy cdjs. i suggest doing the digital platform. ableton live, a notebook, and a good mixer. it gives you more control, ability to edit on the fly and you dont have to wait for vinyl @ 10$ a pop. there are many good online digital stores like beatport. that sell tracks for a buck.
better yet dont bother dj-ing because before long you will end up spending your entire paycheck and pissing your life away.

Thanks for the varied response. I have no intention of being a DJ. I was in a band for a many years and we have decided to start up again (6 years on). I feel we need to add an extra sound/s to our set. I have dabbled with samples/loops and a bit of mixing, scratching and beats but do not yet know where this is going. So it is more for experimental but could be used for a live performance. I can sell the turntables on after if need be, as I know these things will never lose value.
I was also looking at cdj's but these are very pricey.
